Publisher's Summary

A heart-pounding new thriller from the author of The Snowman and The Thirst.
Set in the 1970s in a run-down, rainy, industrial town, Jo Nesbo's Macbeth centers around a police force struggling to shed an incessant drug problem. Duncan, chief of police, is idealistic and visionary, a dream to the townspeople but a nightmare for criminals. The drug trade is ruled by two drug lords, one of whom - a master of manipulation named Hecate - has connections with the highest in power and plans to use them to get his way.
Hecate's plot hinges on steadily, insidiously manipulating Inspector Macbeth: the head of SWAT and a man already susceptible to violent and paranoid tendencies. What follows is a pause-resisting story of love and guilt, political ambition, and greed for more, exploring the darkest corners of human nature and the aspirations of the criminal mind.

Great story, listen to the sample first

I thought the story was great, and I love Nesbo's novels. The only difference with this was a new narrator, who if you're not used to a narrator with an accent, may be difficult to follow. I would recommend listening to the Sample of the audiobook to see if it's right for you before purchasing. Great overall though!

Disappointed Nesbo fan

What would have made Macbeth better?

I was 7 hours into the book and couldn't take it anymore. I'm a big Nesbo fan but hated this book so I returned it. This is the first book I decided not to finish on audible. I found it hard to follow. I'm not sure if it's the author or the narrator that ruined it for me. Perhaps both..

Would you be willing to try another one of Euan Morton’s performances?

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
