Mick Herron has to be one of the best crime/spy writers on the scene today. Not only is he an intelligent and highly skilled writer who is a joy to read but he has a wickedly acute sense of humour and is an wry observer of our common humanity.
The Slough House series goes from strength to strength.
i can't recommend this book highly enough - outstanding.
I love Mick Herron’s dialogue. It is clever and insightful and funny. Depicts the characters brilliantly. Fantastic storytelling.
Sean Barrett’s narration is perfect. Tone, timing and interpretation all incredible. Hugely talented voice actor.
I’m a big fan of Slough House.

I have really enjoyed reading all five of the currently available books in this series. Love the variety of deeply flawed characters and the careful, complicated plot lines. Sean Barrett isn’t bad, either!

I usually can't get enough of the Slough House books, and Sean Barrett's narration. However, with this one Barrett has changed the way he performs the voice of Jackson Lamb, arguably the central character of the series. His voice is irritatingly phlegmy and moist and Lamb sounds like he's about to wheeze his last at any moment. I had to struggle to get through the book because the squelchy rumblings of Lamb. The story was worth it though; the best Slough House book yet.
Great story. As always excellent reading by Barrett. Niggling worry though that I will not be able to stick with Lamb's increasing personal grossness (and Herron's increasingly juvenile obsession with farting). Only so much of that a woman can overlook.
