Richard Ferrone created the souls of Abe Lieberman and Bill Hanrahan in Mr. Kaminsky's first three Lieberman novels. This time David Colacci sends them to hell! Strong? I've enjoyed Mr Colacci reading other books. NOT THIS TIME. Did he not listen to Ferrone's impressible creations? Why would anyone decide to substitute a tough guy interpretation to Lieberman? What happened to the sensitivity of Bill Hanrahan?
SKIP THIS BOOK, Lieberman lovers. Go directly to Lieberman's Law (if you can find it in audio since none of the rest of this series is currently available in AudioBooks). If Colacci narrated the earlier novels I would not have downloaded more than one (and I'd probably have returned that). What the hell happened here?
If you ever wondered how much a gifted actor brings to an audio cast, then listen to any of the earlier Lieberman novels, then try the audio sample for this book. BTW, Colacci's yiddish accent is cringe-worthy... And the way he tortures Hanrahan's Irish should invite a rebuke from the Irish Defamation League. SHITE!

Mr. Kaminsky has written four series, a total of at least 50 books. I have not liked the Toby Peters books, but the Rostnikov and Lieberman series are pure delights, and the Lew Fonesca books are fun, too, although Mr. Fonesca's sadness threatens to weigh us all down toward the grave. Lieberman and Rostnikov, though, are Mr. Kaminsky's finest work, and I have already re-read several of them, both in audio and in print. The Russian characters are so heartfelt and authentic that you believe that Russians must be just like them. Aside from Martin Cruz Smith, Mr. Kaminsky stands tallest among American writers depicting the Russian temperament and predicament. It seems to me that Mr. Kaminsky has stopped writing, which is a thing I truly regret. I look forward eagerly to each new book by Martin Cruz Smith. It would be a dream come true if Mr. Kaminsky could give us one more story about the characters he created, nurtured and loved over several decades.
