Publisher's summary

When 18-year-old Chloe Emery returns to her West London home she finds her mother missing, the house covered in blood. Everything points to murder, except for one thing: there’s no sign of the body.

London detective Maeve Kerrigan and the homicide team turn their attention to the neighbours. The ultra-religious Norrises are acting suspiciously; their teenage daughter and Chloe Emery definitely have something to hide. Then there’s William Turner, once accused of stabbing a schoolmate and the neighborhood’s favorite criminal. Is he merely a scapegoat, or is there more behind the charismatic façade?

As a body fails to materialize, Maeve must piece together a patchwork of testimonies and accusations. Who is lying, and who is not? And soon Maeve starts to realize that not only will the answer lead to Kate Emery, but more lives may hang in the balance.

With Let the Dead Speak, Jane Casey returns with another taut, richly drawn novel that will grip listeners from the opening sentence to the stunning conclusion.

Love this series!

The narrator makes the characters come alive and the plots have lots of twists and turns. I am never disappointed!

Enjoy the full series

This police procedural set in London takes a bit of getting used to—particularly the unusual narrator—but is worth it. I’ve done the whole series now and although not chart topping, it is always an entertaining use of a credit. Strong young female lead carries the show.

earlier books better

lot of predictable story lines and stupid choices made by female lead that lean towards old anti feminine stereotypes which is odd since this is written by a woman, earlier books do this a bit, but gets worse here, disappointed

Best yet in the series

Jane Casey and Sarah Coomes are to Maeve Keerigan as Ann Cleves and Brenda Blethyn are to Vera. What an incredible combination of talent. I especially enjoyed a scene where Maeve reads a transcript of an interview Derwent had done while she was interview someone else. Bummed that the next book is not available in audio in US.

Maeve is my hero.

I have loved every one of these books. Maeve feels like such a real person, with her faults and vulnerabilities, her strengths and beliefs. Sarah Coomes is simply perfect in her narration.

Well Done!

I really enjoyed all the characters. The plot was good. I got angry at times at the spite and meanness of some of the characters and sorry for some. It kept my attention til the end.

Emotional rollercoaster.

Truly well written and heart wrenching. Whole listening to the story, i had my theories and conjectures. I can't say enough that this was story and characters were well written and detailed into their history. I love Jane Casey and her Maeve Kerrigan books.

All of my senses, my soul, completely taken

There are few books that I have elected to read again and
again, but this is one of them. Everything about these few cops intrigues. Their work, their hidden, and their obvious flaws make them completely real. The story might be the weakest link -- only in that it exists to elaborate on the subtle and the outright sins of the characters pulled into this story. Do not pass this book by. I will not attempt to summarize, as doing so will merely unfairly lesson the impact of listening.

Quite an ending

One of my favorite Maeve Kerrigan books. Quite a story whose ending I didn’t see coming. Great characters. Great writing.
