A Short, Fun and Fast-Paced Listen

I really liked McDermid's female PI, Kate Brannigan, in the two earlier novels I have read, and I totally enjoyed this BBC dramatization.

The narrator does a great job as Kate, who is a spunky and creative detective with fighting skills and connections to the less-savory characters of society. The characters are not really deeply developed, as this is a Kate and Plot driven plot - but it's a good, light listen for sure, has some fun twists, and excitement thrown in, too.

If you are not familiar with dramatized audio books - please note: this is not a full reading of the actual book, but rather, the book has been adapted into a script that is performed by various actors. Kind of like watching TV, but no need for visuals. Hence, dramatized books are quite a bit shorter than an actual audio book. Personally, I really enjoy a good dramatized book - often for lulling me to sleep at night instead of dumb TV shows; sometimes they are perfect for a shortish drive; other times they just fill a blank space while I'm cooking or whatever. In any case, all the BBC productions I've listened to are extremely well-done, and this one is no different.

Dramatization was Excellent

The BBC radio dramatization was excellent. The story line was not very good.

I didn't like the main character, Kate Brannigan, because her personality was rather quirky with one-liners and wise-cracks. Furthermore, she seemed to care less about one of the characters in the story that, because of her actions, contributed to his death.

The plot about the burglaries was boring. The best part was the chase across Europe and the dramatization.
