Publisher's summary

Hetta Coffey is a sassy Texan with a snazzy yacht and she's not afraid to use it!

After several months of cruising Mexico's hauntingly beautiful Sea of Cortez, Hetta's in Puerto Escondido, a place once described by author John Steinbeck as "a magic harbor". Anchored out, swaying on the hook at the whim of breeze and tide, surrounded by magnificent views and turquoise water can be magical. Stuck at anchor alone? Not so much.

So when her best friend, Jan, gets them an invite to a party at a nearby luxury resort hosted by a Japanese businessman - all expenses paid - Hetta figures, why not? Why turn down an evening of free food and booze? And besides, what could possibly go wrong?

With Hetta involved? Plenty.

Not only are she and Jan soon up to their necks in hot sake, a succession of unsavory intruders sends Hetta scurrying for a safe harbor, but not before she reaches the conclusion that some folks just need killin'.

Jan needs killing

Jan with her voice really got on my nerves but I listened to the end. Hetta and po thing make the story worth listening to. With all the characters from Japan to Mexico I don't know how anyone could keep up. Po-thing awesome diving dog. Not a suspense novel but defiantly comedy.
I received this free for an honest review from the author or narrator.

Hate narrator changes

The story was very good as usual but the new narrator is horrible. The voice for Jan was over the top annoying I felt like it was being read by a 12 year old. There were places where she would start speaking much slower then go back to normal. . I'll finish the series but I will be reading the rest of them.

Love the book series but not the narrator!

I'm a big fan of Jinx Shwartz's Hetta Coffey series but not the narrator for this particular book, Stevie Puckett. She sounds like a bored tour guide.

Any additional comments?

This was the first of the Hetta Coffey series books that I have read/heard. It wasn't too hard to catch on to the dynamics of the friends in the series, but I'm sure it would have been easier to have begun with the first book in the series. This did have a finished ending - no real cliff hanger, so that was good. The narration was just "okay"...I've had some narrators that I had to turn off and never finish listening - this was definitely NOT in that category. But neither was it seamless to listen to. Sometimes the narrator "forgot" mid sentence which accent she was using for which character. The Mexican boyfriend sometimes sounded like the Japanese diver. The narrator also sounded at times like she was reading from a book - I get it, she IS reading. But a truly wonderful narrator sounds like they are recounting a wonderful story, not reading it. Over all, I did enjoy this book and will probably listen to more in the series.

narration is terrible

I was completely taken aback that they changed the narrator for this book. I still tried hard to give it a try. Not only is the narrator bad, the production is really bad. You can tell when she had to redo a sentence. The background noise is different and it just sounds odd. I haven't been able to get through the book...very sad. If this is the narrator for future books, I will not be listening.

Good Book, not great narration

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I didn't care for much the narrator but the story was pretty interesting to me. I liked Hetta's character but just couldn't get into the voice portrayal... it was kind of whiney sounding and I didn't think it fit my visualization of the character. All in all, I like the series and am interested in more. I just may get them in print instead.

I love Hetta Coffe

Would you listen to Just Needs Killin' again? Why?

Yes, I would listen to it again. The story is a great continuation of the Hetta Coffee series. It's lighthearted and fun.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoy getting to know the characters. I also love learning about the Sea of Cortez and its history.

What three words best describe Stevie Puckett’s voice?

Shrill
Consistent
Fair

Who was the most memorable character of Just Needs Killin' and why?

Definitely Hetta. The other characters are always peripheral to her. without Hetta there would be no story.

Any additional comments?

Stevie Puckett's voicing of Jan is too shrill and hard to listen to. Otherwise she does a good performance of the book.

Could have been better with a different narrator

Would you try another book from Jinx Schwartz and/or Stevie Puckett?

I probably would try another book by Jinx Schwartz if it was narrated by someone else.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jinx Schwartz? Why or why not?

This book was difficult to get into and to get all the way through. The narration was very distracting to the story. She was trying to hard to be upbeat and some of her voices were annoying and just wrong.

Would you be willing to try another one of Stevie Puckett’s performances?

No, I don't think so.

a strange mystery, worth the read

Any additional comments?

Just Needs Killin' (Hetta Coffey Mystery, #6) by Jinx Schwartz is an audio book I requested and the review is voluntary. This is a strange mystery, atleast different from mysteries I am use to. The two girls of the story break laws, or try to break laws, and don't seem to think anything about it. They somehow get mixed up in the Japanese mafia, find a dead body but don't turn the murder in. Plan a murder, steal precious items, and they don't seem to care too much. (Maybe the friend, not the main gal, Hetta.) Strange story. There is lots of humor, action, adventure, and traveling. The narrator is perfect for this story.
