Publisher's summary

When a powerful client summons him for a midnight meeting, lawyer Chris Bruen knows something is very wrong. Zapper, the world's most popular search engine, has been compromised, and its most valuable asset - search algorithms - stolen. The company suspects that this most recent instance in a wave of high-tech crimes originated in China, and that the government itself is behind the systematic theft of US intellectual property.

Chris travels to China to search for evidence that will link the intrusion to the People's Liberation Army. With remote assistance from Zoey Doucet, the head of his firm's computer forensics lab and his maybe-girlfriend, Chris uncovers information that takes him even deeper into the shadowy world of cybercrime. Now he is trapped in a foreign land with a hard drive containing information that puts his life in jeopardy. In this secretive world of Big Data, Chris will risk everything to fight an elusive enemy as far-reaching as the Internet itself.

another page Turner from Reese Hirsch

the author of this Series has captured a character in keeping with Grisham novels. it was a trick page Turner from beginning to end and I enjoyed it immensely.

Good Story

If you like the first book in the series, you will like this one. The story suffers a bit as the narrator has a limited range of voices. As more characters are introduced, the narrator runs out of inflections. Enough to take away from the overall experience...I don't think so. Very entertaining overall.

Excellent follow up to The Adversary

Any additional comments?

I thought this was a really good, well written book and an excellent follow up to the previous book in this series - The Adversary. The protagonist Chris Bruen has not had it easy. He begins as a teen hacker whose friend took the blame, becomes an atty and works for the justice dept, wife dies of cancer and he goes into private practice specializing in Internet Security. This is a scenario for which many good story lines can emerge and so far two have! Chris along with his employee/girlfriend/sometimes former hacker find all sorts if trouble (aka jobs) to get into globally. If you are looking for a fast paced believable book - no real super hero stunts- then this is the book for you. I highly recommend this.

Sooo boring!

Read the first book and it was decent, especially being an IT person I understood all the terminology, etc. But this story, I'm not sure if or when I'll ever finish it, 3.5 hours in and I had to switch to a different 'listen', just couldn't do it any longer. Maybe it's a slow start but I was nearly at the half way point. Then the narrator didn't help the story at all; he was just reading it, with zero expression, and at a very fast pace, as if he couldn't wait to finish. This is the first book I couldn't listen to at 1.25, my usual speed. This was free via kindle unlimited, thankfully I didn't waste any money or a credit. First time ever I quit listening to a book.
