Publisher's summary

When a blackmailed drag queen walks into Cal Corwin's P. I. agency, she quickly throws herself into the investigation, but with each new clue she finds the case gets murkier, its web of lies more tangled. When murder rears its ugly head, it becomes clear more is at stake than money, and Cal must watch her own back even as she tries to find the culprit.

In a Bind is Book Two in the new P. I. mystery series from D. D. VanDyke, a pen name of veteran best-selling technothriller author David VanDyke. Set against the rich backdrop of the San Francisco Bay Area, Cal Corwin novels brim with intrigue and fully fleshed characters from cops and criminals to hit men, oddball family and unexpected allies.

Powerful woman who is not afraid to put her face forward

love Cal. A powerful brave woman who is not. Afraid of anything yet vulnerable at the core. Can’t wait to Nextt in series.

Mickey Spillane would have liked this.

Enjoyed the critique of Sherlock Holmes and all the rest was Gravy. I found I enjoy this genre and once again I enjoy this prolific Author. The narrator confidently carried herself and you soon forgot she wasn't the Lady Detective herself. The plot evolved unpredictably and the story was never tame. Gripping actually.

Such a disappointment; could have been good

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

who would enjoy..? well maybe someone that doesn't think things through.

Would you ever listen to anything by D. D. VanDyke again?

low cost drives some behaviors...

What about Francesca Townes’s performance did you like?

enjoyed the tonal inflections and the change of pace to match the tale

Any additional comments?

I don't write reviews, but just could not get by the holes...to reach suspension of disbelief. A major character, a connected thug, is chained up and beaten. Then there is no retaliation against the protagonist? just not realistic. The main character spends a bunch of time bashing men and their behavior/thoughts. And then ends up in a 'relationship' with one? One of two main murder victims had no identified killer? Come on, begin with the end in mind.
