Naration ALMOST spoils good story

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Narrator's inexperience is obvious. Many times it's like she's reading a line for the first time, so it doesn't come out with the right emphasis. Even worse, though, are the attempts at speaking each character with different tones and accents. I muddled through the breathy mother and too-deep male voices only because the story kept me intersted.

What did you like best about this story?

The main character and her relationship with the accused.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tara Platt’s performances?

No.

Do you think Hostile Witness needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I liked the main character and might read another book about her.

Good story, truly incompetent reader

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story was interesting and worth finishing, but my fourth graders can read better than this. She sounds like a truly bad actor.

How could the performance have been better?

She sounded like a bad actor - overdone, voices unrealistic, just really badl

Any additional comments?

This story would have been much better with another narrator.

Speed reading?

Well! The reader spoke so fast I had to slow this book down – that was the first of my problems with this book.

There wasn't a single character that I could even remotely like – so of course I couldn't give a toss about what happened to any of them. I did want to know if I was right about the true murderer though, so after gritting my teeth through the first dozen chapters getting more and more irritated by all the 'Beautiful women' and their inane happenings – I flipped through and read the last couple of chapters – voilà! I wasn't wrong, and I saved myself all the tedium of listening to the awful narration and the nonsensical and poorly written story.

I really should look more carefully at reviews – I have just read those from Amazon.com – I just wish I had read these sooner.
