Publisher's summary

New York Times, USA Today, and number-one Kindle best-selling series!

Fashion designer Maddie Springer has just tied the knot and is on her way to honeymoon paradise in Tahiti with her hot new husband. Warm sand, cool surf, and a romantic suite all to themselves - what could possibly go wrong? That is until Maddie stumbles on the dead body of a Tahitian dancer, strangled with her own flower lei. Now suddenly her husband is spending more time consulting with the local police than cavorting in their private hot tub for two. If Maddie wants to have a honeymoon at all, it's up to her and her friends to track down the island killer before paradise turns deadly again.

Standard Cozy

Honeymoon in High Heels is a cozy mystery novella set in Tahiti during the honeymoon of the main character. This is book 5.5 in the High Heels series, but can be read as a standalone. I haven't read anything else from this series and it was fine. I wasn't lost or confused at all. It is your basic run of the mill short cozy. It was fine. It didn't blow me away, nor did it bore me, so overall I give it 3 stars. The narration was good too. The french accents made me smirk a bit but everything that needed to be conveyed was.

Not much to it!

Storyline was not believable- who on earth would crash a couple’s honeymoon, especially one that has a problematic relationship due to a very demanding career? And who would tolerate such an invasion? Must not be much spark to the couple if it took DAYS for them to finally have alone time! This just didn’t make any sense at all! Very disappointing- stopped listening about halfway through. Silly.

Very short story

I found this when shopping a big sale on Audible for a bunch of their "short stories". Unfortunately, I realized once I started that this was part of an existing series. That is a big pet peeve of mine as I really REALLY dislike starting a book in the middle of a series. With that being said, it was pretty easy to pick up from the beginning and I didn't feel like there was too much that I was missing.

The characters were not fleshed out that well - but that also makes sense since it is the 5th or 6th book in a series. The characters felt pretty superficial and now I know why. I couldn't understand the relationship between the female and male MC. It was supposed to be their honeymoon, but I didn't get any feelings of a relationship between the two.

On the good side, I did enjoy the story. It seems like this is one of those fun and quirky series where the female heroine ends up getting herself into crazy situations. It did peak my interest and I think I might go back and find the first book in this series to start the right way.

All in all, this was a very easy read/listen that had some laughs and also had some quirkiness. If you have an hour or two, it is worth it.

This was my first book from this author. It was

really fun with colorful characters. It was a very short read but I didn't feel like I was cheated at all.

Earns 5/5 Mai Tais...Entertaining Fun!

Gemma Halliday has penned a clever short story, “Honeymoon in High Heels” (audio 1:53), with Maddie Springer Ramirez and her new husband, LAPD Detective Jack Ramirez (surprisingly sans his cell phone), soaring off to Tahiti for their long anticipated honeymoon. However, romance among swaying palms, tropical floral breezes, and sandy beaches includes a dead Tahitian 'ote'a dancer! There are few homicides on the island, so Jack’s offer as a consultant is welcomed by the local police...Maddie, not so much, but it does allow her some relaxing solitude and shopping providing perfect eavesdropping and snooping opportunities...but then uninvited Calvary arrives! A delightfully fun mystery enriched by the talented voice artistry of Caroline Shaffer: pleasant narration of tone and emotions, some dialect variations including a Tahitian-French accent, and a good effort on age and gender. Perfect respite...you bring the rum!
