Old Favourite

I have always loved this book and it was a joy to become reaquainted via audio book. Tony Briton is an excellent voice artist and manages the wide range of accents required admirably. The characters are very real and like all Francis characters from a wide range of backgrounds. Like most of his earlier works the action is set mainly in the racing world but most of the principal characters come from outside that world which makes it all the more interestin. I know lots of people that don't try Dick Francis because they are not interested in horses. Don't let that stop you. The book is about people, their strenths and weeknesses, their virtues and their flaws. The horses are part of the scenery and the plot but knowledge of and interest in horses is not required to enjoy this book. Of cours, if you like the horses than that's a bonus. Very compulsive listening and a good introduction to Dick Francis if you have not read him before.

very bad sound quality

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book although dated in a number of ways, was good, but due to the very poor sound quality left me feeling that I wish i hadn't bothered with it. there is tape hissing noises, fuzzy narrative and gaps

If you’ve listened to books by Dick Francis before, how does this one compare?

lf the sound quality wasn't so annoying i would have kept the book

What aspect of Tony Britton’s performance might you have changed?

Tony Britton's performance was spoiled by recording quality normally i find him a great narrator.

Did High Stakes inspire you to do anything?

Yes, return this version and look forward to buying a new recorded version

Any additional comments?

please Audible fix quality so i can buy this again
