Another entertaining story.
Will Thomas and Antony Ferguson, perfect match!
Mr. Thomas's story, read to perfection by Mr. Ferguson.
Got off with a good start, a bit slow in the middle and great finish. Llewelyn's internal dialogue, can get a bit lengthy but there's usually so much going on, it's necessary. Barker is his usual odd self but throw in Pricilla round the clock and the pressure is on him, it's so funny, how she's got him wrapped around her beautiful pinky, plus HIS FAVORITE PIPE! I laughed more about Barker's reactions and antics in this book than Llewelyn's in this one, DAMN AND BLAST! And Llewelyn doesn't particularly care to be bait.
They're on a rock and with none of their usual resources, so it's a bit different but for those of us who enjoy Barker and Llewelyn, it's extremely enjoyable.

whodunit
Cyrus Barker and Thomas Llewelyn have the fortune to travel with the stylish Philippa Ashleigh. They will spend a week on a little island, Godolphin. The three has two purposes. It is an opportunity for Barker to meet Lady Celia, the friend of Philippa, to look at possible marriage partners, and a political exchange with the French Ambassador. Barker and Llewelyn were the security for the ambassador. Barker and Llewelyn will be without their usual network to help gather information.
This story takes place on an isolated island. Their method of communication has been disabled and transportation is not expected until the end of the week. People are being picked off one by one. Barker’s expertise is questioned and insulted.
Our heroes are not as physically active/fighting since much of the action is in or around the house. We get an opportunity to see Mrs. Philippa Ashleigh using her investigative skills and how her presence softens Barker
.
Secrets of relationships, home and country are explored for causes of the killings. The people have been shot, poison, sphered, stabbed and blown up. There have been two previous attempts on the life of the French Ambassador. Which guests or servants are complicit? How is the assassin getting around on the island? Attempts of the guest to leave the home are met with attempts to their life.
This is a classic whodunit.
"Cyrus will have to do something. We’re running out of people on the island." Says Mrs. Philippa Ashleigh to Thomass
