Publisher's Summary

Tristram Abberley was an acclaimed English poet of the 1930s whose legendary reputation was sealed when he died fighting for the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War. Nearly 50 years later, his sister Beatrix is brutally murdered in her seaside cottage.
Her family are stunned by the crime - especially Beatrix's niece, Charlotte Ladram. But Charlotte has little time to mourn her aunt as 50 years of secrets begin to unravel. Beatrix is the victim of a dark conspiracy, one that her loved ones are powerless to defeat.
A harrowing quest for answers begins, one that uncovers a shocking tale of wartime greed and treachery and a vendetta seemingly without end.....

Absolutely brilliant. Beautifully narrated intriguing storyline didn’t guess the punch line. Thank you Robert Goddard for many rapt hours of listening.

Quite dreary and slow miving

I really found this story so long winded and dreary, the narration too, was so slow that I had to speed it to 1.25 to be able to carry on listening. There was a large cast of characters, none of whom I could feel any sympathy with or liking for. Charlotte was so dopey I could have slapped her, and the rest of her family were supercilious and thoroughly unpleasant. The only reason I can give three stars is that I did actually want to know the unravelled story so I listened to the end.
I'm not sure that it was worth the effort!
