Story
It was meant to be Caitlin's perfect summer, but betrayed by her best friend and her boyfriend, she finds herself hitchhiking home alone, heartbroken, and penniless. When a smiling family pulls up on the roadside to help her on her way, she's relieved at first - they seem friendly, normal. And when they offer her a warm bed in their cottage for the night, she's grateful - it's not safe for young women travelling alone in the dark, and she's in no rush to get home, where she knows a grave secret is due to blow her family apart.

Story
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Story
It was surreal returning to work after a five-month enforced sabbatical following the suspicious death of my best friend Livvy at a work event. I was grateful for the time away to grieve and had slotted straight back in work but a surprise awaited my return. Amanda Dowd, Livvy’s replacement, was entrenched as my new flatmate in the company apartment. Something didn’t feel right, I felt on edge. But everyone seemed to love her. Even my ex-Jayden was blinded by her outgoing personality and model looks. When I began to receive calls, photos and presents supposedly from Livvy, I became spooked.

Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn't remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

The day my path crossed with Simon Fox I thought I’d already lost everything, but then he almost ran me off the road with his flash car and belittling jibes. The men in my life had undermined me for too long. Enough was enough. Fuelled by alcohol and the desire to get even, I decided a spot of petty vandalism would make me feel a whole lot better. Wrong. Very wrong. I hadn’t realised that Simon Fox was not a man to be messed with.

The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Publisher's summary
Good Me Bad Me is dark, compelling, voice-driven psychological suspense by debut author Ali Land: "Could not be more unputdownable if it was slathered with superglue." —Sunday ExpressMilly’s mother is a serial killer. Though Milly loves her mother, the only way to make her stop is to turn her in to the police. Milly is given a fresh start: a new identity, a home with an affluent foster family, and a spot at an exclusive private school. But Milly has secrets, and life at her new home becomes complicated. As her mother’s trial looms, with Milly as the star witness, Milly starts to wonder how much of her is nature, how much of her is nurture, and whether she is doomed to turn out like her mother after all. When tensions rise and Milly feels trapped by her shiny new life, she has to decide: Will she be good? Or is she bad? She is, after all, her mother's daughter.
"Land takes the reader on a terrific voyage into the teenage psyche...an intense, insightful first novel; its believable characters caught up in realistic situations will make the reader think more deeply about teenage mental health. Fans of Jay Asher's Thirteen Reasons Why will enjoy this book immensely." - Library Journal

WOW! Good Wolf &Bad
At first Good me: Bad Me started rather slow but give it a tiny bit of time. The narration seemed a better fit for fairy tales but soon my ears adjusted to the melody of the British narration and carried me along.
The story which was much like being swept up in a current.
The subject of having children abducted and abused is a base for this story but it is not so overwhelming in details that it turns your gut. It is the elephant in the room for sure, but the heartwrenching details are presented in such a way that I dare call them palatable ( if there is such a thing). It is a detail to the underbelly of these characters drive and the stories flow.
This is a very intriguing book that explores and lends insight to the victimization, genetics, and sickness of abusers as well as the real lives of those who reach out to offer support and make a difference.
This book may not be for everyone but it doesn't have a lot of gory detail, cursing or descriptive sexual content. As a listener, I didn't find myself entertained by the subject of abuse as much as the story as a whole.
Good me Bad me is a very good, suspenseful story that flows through what I'll call a tainted river no one wants to truly navigate but it skirts the edges enough to get you wet enough to feel.
I don't just hand out 5 stars and I considered going 4 because this book may not be for everyone but considering how well it was presented I believe this one earned them as a whole.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Imogen Church is God's Gift to audio books!
Have you ever watched a movie and thought, "This actor's performance really made this movie so much better. His/her performance made anything I didn't like about the plot unimportant..."?? That's every single audiobook I've ever listened to when it's narrated by Imogen Church. I would buy an audible recording of her reading the Twilight series, and there is nothing I've ever hated more than that.
I found the book decent, and the story quite dark and unique, but it's really Church's performance that made Milly come alive. She makes a crappy story good, and, in this case, a good story freaking amazing! So yeah... Get this book.

Warning graphic detail of child killing
I skimmed the reviews before buying this book but never noticed anything about the graphic detail of child killing. Maybe it’s because I’m a mom and a bit more sensitive than most but I had to skip through a sizable chunks of this book to avoid it.
The parts I did listen to weren’t really worth the listen. There’s better suspense books out there, I would pass on this one.

Slow Burn. Little Payoff.
I was excited for this one because of the reviews but overall it felt slow and nothing much happens. I finished it out of stubbornness to quit but didn’t care much for any characters. Don’t pick this up looking for a dark thriller because that’s not what this is.

Another amazing performance by Imogen!
I immensely enjoyed this book and was very surprised as I had never heard of this author before but I decided to give it a chance because Imogen was narrating. Very dark and disturbing at times I loved it! This is the first time I've ever heard of someone telling a story from the point of view of a child of a serial killer. Everyone wants to write about killers or their victims but this was new and original I think and very well executed. I will definitely be looking for other books by this autnor.

Finished it in 2 days!
The prose is absolutely phenomenal. The narration is flawless (I've listened to 2 other books by Imogen Church and by god I could listen to that woman read a hundred takeout menus). The characters have so much depth.
*minor spoiler* If there is anything negative I have to say about this book, it's that Phoebe (and some of the other schoolgirls) seemed more like a hyperbolized charicature of the "bully" archetype. This combined with her parents' lack of discipline made certain plot points just a touch less believable.
*end spoiler*
Other than that minor criticism, this was a fantastic book. Couldn't stop listening, like many other reviewers I agree that I was sad when it came to an end. Recommend 110%!
