Cute Ghosty Mystery!

I enjoyed the whole concept of a psychologist using her skills to assist a ghost. Such an original idea. Katherine is a psychologist who gets entangled with a detective Jake. Jake buys an older house that needs a little work but he feels is worth it until he's haunted by a ghost. At first he's freaked out and even moves out of the house until he meets Katherine and they decide maybe the ghost isn't all bad. At the same time there's a budding romance between them.

The author does a great job in developing the characters and furthring the plot. There were a few twists, some I expected but also a wow! No spoilers here, you have to read it! The plot itself has layers keeping my listening ears invested. The narrator has a natural flow with the story and a good cadance.

This isn't just a great ghost story but a really amazing cozy mystery!

The cover does not do the book justice

The book was not what I expected. I thought it would be more of a thriller but it is not, that is not to say that it is bad. On the contrary, I found that I really liked the book and I love the narrator, she not only voiced the characters but put emotions in their words. She had my full attention throughout the audiobook.
The book itself is funny at times and series in other parts. There is a ghost and a cat that communicates with dead people. There are some part I found hard to believe but other then that I absolutely loved this audiobook. I have not listened to any of this authors books. After listening to this one I am definitely looking up her other works.
Would recommend to others. This is a clean read with some violence and no sexual content except the parts that are discussed due to the crime but it is not graphic. If I had to put an age to it I would say it is more NA.

Fun mystery

I don't know if this was meant to be fun but I found this to be not only mysterious but fun as well. A dead woman in a mirror haunting a house, a strange woman with a psychic cat who attaches itself to another woman and a happy friend who regularly brightens up a bad situation. All of this on top of the hunt for a serial killer made for a good mystery. It worked for me and I found it an enjoyable listen. An Entertaining Supernatural Tale of the Unknown

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is a book that will keep you wondering until the end. It has several unexpected twists and turns and the plot is never what you expect. The well-defined characters are credible and the inventive way of communicating with other-world entities by way of a psychologist, makes the whole situation even somewhat credible. Of course, we are dealing with ghosts, prescient cats, talking mirrors, so maybe you do need to give a free rain to your fantasy, but once you do, you'll enjoy the development of this complex supernatural mystery with a smile on your lips. Pleasantly written by the author, the audiobook's interpretation by Ruth Redman makes a very pleasant addition to the listening experience. You will not be disappointed.

Interesting, Funny and Ghostly

This is my first time reading L.A. Kelly’s work and I can say I had no regrets choosing to read/listen to Good Bones.

From the moment, I began the book I knew this would be a story I would enjoy. The story pulled me in and I could not get enough. With eager anticipation, I went through the story, as I had to know the villain’s identity.

Humour, suspense, mystery, romance and paranormal elements permeated this story making for an exciting, funny and sweet read/listen.

I enjoyed spending time with the characters. My favourite being Whiskers the physic cat. Yep, you read right, a physic cat.

The partnership between the main characters Katherine and Jake drove the momentum of the story. I thought they were great to together personally and professionally. Relating to them proved easy. Katherine was new in town, trying to settle in her new job and trying to navigate her way through all Sandy Shoals had to offer.

Jake, currently on desk duty due to a work-related shooting. He shoulders guilt for this shooting and another incident from college. Imperfections and insecurities were part of their lives but they never allowed it to control them.

I love it when a mystery keeps you guessing until the end. Well Good Bones had me guessing the villain’s identity until the 60% mark. By this time, the story had me on the edge of my seat and I was curious to know what was going to happen next. There were other events, which piqued my curiosity metre. Who was the ghost in the mirror, and what was her reason for seeking Katherine’s help in bringing a murderer to justice? I got my answers, and I loved how everything came together. Well almost everything. The motive for the killings were not established. Yeah, mental issues was a contributing factor, but it would have been good to know the triggers.

Narration
The narrator, Ruth Redman, did a good job. She did a good job with the voices of all the characters. Her pacing and tone were good which kept me hooked from start to finish. She made it easy to differentiate between each character as her male and female voices were distinct. It was an easy listen and her voice helped to enhance the story.

Conclusion/Recommendation
If you love cozy mysteries that is humorous, fun and features paranormal elements, then Good Bones would be the perfect read.

A good listen

I really enjoyed this story. Although I knew who the bad guy was early on, there were other aspects of the story that I didn't see coming. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

The Ghost Whisperer...

What a clever and compelling story! Super interesting, kept my interest from beginning to end. Psychology, ghosts, mystery suspense, cat and murder - it's a great story that has it all. Well written and loved the narrator as well, great job! I'd definitely love to hear more by both author and narrator :)

Good Bones

Katherine is starting her life over in a new town. A new practice and new friends. On an afternoon outing she runs into a past client and becomes fast friends. Katherine is very observant and notices a man listening to the conversation they are having. And soon she will get to know him as well, Jake has some issues with his new home. He asks Katherine to help out. As the case progresses they find themselves in danger. This is a super fun listen with a touch of paranormal. Nice job on the narration. “I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review"

Very interesting listen

4 really got into this book right away. I loved how the author introduced Katherine/Kathy and from the beginning, I knew this was going to be a great mystery. It was!

This listen had quite a lot of moveable parts - romance, a psychic cat, the paranormal, and a serial killer - just to name a few. The story was extremely well-written and I appreciated how the author interspersed all the sub-plots.

The narrator was an excellent choice. I liked Redman's delivery and she made all elements of this story work.
