Publisher's summary

When a popular soap maker dies in the middle of her own launch party, the girls must find out who did it. The answer seems simple. In the victim's hand was a napkin with a handwritten note: The Butler did it. They have their killer. There's just one problem; there are four butlers, each one claiming that he's innocent. Did one of them do it? Or, is there more to this case?

Intriguing modern tale

What did you like about this audiobook?

Yes, I enjoyed the book and a variation of the detective novels I have started to get back into. A variation because its a large team of detectives investigating instead of one or as a part of the team in the usual detective novel.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

Difference to the normal novel raises my interest and intrigues me, the hardest thing to do in genre especially one as settled as the murder mystery one and her we have a little bit of a feminine tilt that makes it more thoughtful and increasing the communication of the characters. No strong silent types here

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

By the use of the team, each have their own skills and personalities and that makes it more believable, instead of using drone 3rd party characters you get more lifelike and realistic insight into the mystery world

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Nope, the narrator gave it enough tension and emotion to bring the words to life.

A group solved mystery

The set up for this series is that there's a group of amateur detectives who solve crimes together. The local police hire a private detective for help, and this PI calls on Pippa & friends for assistance. This premise is frustrating because which police detective or PI would be so clueless that they desperately need a rag tag group of amateur sleuths? It didn't make sense. Usually in cozy mysteries the amateur sleuth sort of wiggles their way into the crime uninvited & they aren't typically regarded as the chief crime solvers.

The group itself was kind of eh.. None of them had stand out personalities or qualities which made them memorable. The crime itself had an interesting plot, a whodunit with the victim blaming the butler, but we don't know which one of the 4 did it. The narration was okay, it likely redeemed the story a bit. I was provided this book for free in exchange for my honest review.

Short listen but not a real mystery

Any additional comments?

I listened to this while I was preparing my house for holiday visitors. I wanted a quick read and this fit the bill.

I liked the narration and the mystery was okay. I just think I listen to way too many mysteries so I had the culprit for this one picked out quite early on. It made for a hard listen then when it took so long for the actual detectives to figure things out.

This mystery was just okay.

Good story but needed a little more

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed listening to this book, however, if felt like it was missing something. It felt like in places it just kept repeating itself. I like how she fingered the butler since there were 4 butlers and it took time to sort it all out. I think there could've been a little more story in the research the lady PI's were doing. I would love to listen to another book from this author and narrator and see how it compares to this book. Mystery and Investigations

This book was a pleasure to listen to, the characters were human and their emotions shone through. A successful business woman dies at her own dinner party and Pippa Langham sets out to find the killer. Even the police are having trouble finding the guilty person.
I love a good mystery and this one was interesting and enjoyable to sleuth along with Pippa.

A good whodunit!

cozy-mystery, private-investigators, murder-investigation, law-enforcement, friendship

A good whodunit! A woman is murdered at a party in front of over a hundred witnesses with a note in her hand that says that the butler did it. Fine, but there are FOUR butlers! The police call in the local private investigators to assist with this mess, but it takes a lot of screen time and thinking outside the box to get to the right conclusion by the end. A very good read!
I got the Whispersync on sale and Olivia Searfoss does the narration beautifully!

Meh...

Story seemed like a school project; too predictable. It was easy to figure out who did it. The reading, though fine, didn't do much for the story.
