Publisher's summary

He slowly eased back on the throttle and brought the boat to a stop on the desolate river. They zipped the large canvas bag shut and then hoisted the body over the side of the boat and watched as it slipped beneath the dark surface. Looking to the west, they could see fiery storm clouds were brewing - an eery sign of the fire storm of brutal killings and ruthless revenge to come.

Detective Mac McRyan returns home to Minnesota to find the dead body of a retired police detective in the scraggly trees along the rough shores of an island in the Mississippi River. His nearly unrecognizable body was beaten and tortured. As the detectives dig deeper and pull back the layers on the murder they get far more than they bargained for. Their investigation unleashes a mysterious, ruthless, and fearless opponent who will stop at nothing and will kill anyone.

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Roger Stelljes has crafted another addictive pulse-pounding thriller filled with his trademark twists and turns.

Mac McRyan at his best

Really like this series, well written and Johnny Peppers is one of the best narrators ever. Highly recommend.

One of the best ones in the series

I have read, (heard) all the books so far. This one kept my interest. It was suspenseful, intriguing, and at times, emotional. It was done well.

Last of this stale series?

FIREBALL, Book 8 in the McRyan Mystery Series, is a sound modern detective novel although it needs to be edited for excessive wordiness. I hope it is the last book in the series because author Roger Stelljes seems to be running out of creative ideas. Stelljes has since released Silenced Girls which is the first novel in his FBI Agent Hunter series. Tori Hunter is a far more compelling character than Mac McRyan.

Solid, but not spectacular

Book 7 of the Mac McRyan mystery/thriller series is another entertaining, well-written story. Another good, addictive, high octane suspenseful crime novel which is a part of a series. Start at the beginning to get a full appreciation of the protagonist in this series.

The plot was solid, but not spectacular. There were a couple of big moments in the book that had you saying wow. I liked this book a lot, and I would recommend it to all thriller fans. That being said I don’t think this one is on the same level of the last couple books in the series. The plot dragged a bit in spots, and didn’t seem to keep me glued to the pages as much as the last couple books did.

My biggest complaint is the author needs to dial it back a bit and cut the fluff. Good action and great characters but I don't need to know all their shoe sizes, hair styles and family history going back to third cousin fourth removed (or so it seems.) Also a lot of unnecessary repetition. This tale could have been told in about a hundred fewer pages.

I love reading books in this series and Fireball did not disappoint. I was unable to put this book down until I read the last page.

One of the best Stelljes books yet!

Absolutely amazing!! This is one of the best Stelljes books yet! I found Roger Stelljes when I first signed up for Audible because they offered a box set for the 1 free credit. That was the best purchase ever!! But when it comes to audible a good offered book is only half of the equation! The narrator… Johnny Peppers… Does an amazing job with everything he does! He keeps me hanging on with the voices and the way he tells the story! I continue to look for the books he narrates & would know his voice anywhere!!

Another Great book by Stelljes

I've missed McRyan so it's good to have him back in St. Paul, even for a little bit. Some familiar characters are back along with new ones. I like the way Stelljes weaves his stories. He does a good job of keeping things moving and you never know exactly what's happening. Narrator Johnny Peppers is as good as ever. He keeps the voices consistent throughout the series for the main characters and creates new ones.

Great

Sam once a cop who hit bottom, and got his life straighten out. To become a bouncer, for Nikki at the Fireball bar. He called Mac, a former cop, to help with the disappearance of Luther. People were telling Sam to stay out it, cause Luther’s name meant trouble. Sam was excited, saying he had enough evidence for someone to look into Luther having disappeared.
Mac won’t leave it alone till he gets answers.now of who tortured Sam, working along with his old partner Dick Lich. It turns ugly, with a person who kill.anyone who gets in the way of money and power. Another great plot that will hold you to the end, and wanting answers. loved the narration by Peppers, good clear voice.
Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Great Book

BLUF: This story is a 4 out of 5. I enjoyed it and am now moving on to his next book. If you like cop books, you will enjoy this one as well.

I am biased when it comes to these stories. I love St. Paul. MN and have lived in DC as well. These stories bring me home every time I hear them and for that I am thankful.

The story: The story is good but somewhat predictable. There is a bunch of foreshadowing so the "big event" in the book is not as shocking as the author might have hoped. However, it does stay true to the rules of the McRyan universe, so I am okay with it.

The narration: Just great!!
