Christian beliefs

This book felt real and I loved the Christian content! The fact that witnesses are under so much pressure and the belief in God is always under attack!

God themed legal drama

story was ok but wasn’t expecting the religious preaching throughout. Doesn’t add to the story. A very American bible bashing thread

Good idea

The story kept me listening until the end..but I had no patience for the mealy mouthed heroin who was supposedly so well versed in law and could verbally stand up to a killer, but was the worst ever witness on the stand. Who says”maybe” and “I’m pretty sure” on the witness stand when a yes or no would negate further questions and still be honest? Simple answers. That was brutal to listen to and I was “praying”for it to be over by that point.

Well Done

I love how he handled the question of Christianity in the workplace and in our current cultural disrespect of spiritual belief systems that are not all inclusive. Definitely want to read more of his writings. While I am not sure if this author is a Christian, he dealt with this issue respectfully. And, portrayed Christians as human, mistakes and flaws. It was very thought provoking in terms of what the difference between Italian mafia, Russian Mafia, Cartels, and such as to what motivates them and how that impacts how they organize, and behave.

religion added to mystery

Writing was professional, story was overall ok, but have no taste for religion as part of the story.

A good book spoilt by poor choices

This guy can write. He has creative and interesting turns of phrases, has an idea of how to reveal details for dramatic effect and has an appreciation for plot development.

I hated the religious angle. I think this severely weakened the book. I didn’t like that the religious angle wasn’t intellectually sophisticated or nuanced in any way. The author, seemingly a Christian apologist, had a point to make about the supremacy of religious beliefs and, as a result, everyone except the committed Christians are painted as villains, evil, and degenerates. Surely, there are other ways to position the religious struggle than in this simplistic fashion!

The protagonist serves no purpose. She fumbled the ball at every turn - often because of her blind, unsophisticated and immature beliefs in the spiritual world. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind that she’s a Christian, but I hated that her belief system is so simplistic and immature. There was absolutely no appreciation for real world imperatives in her reasoning. The character did a disservice to Christians, I think.

Also, I don’t get the sense she’s a good lawyer. Certainly not a sly or smart one. She works hard and will apparently out-read and out-research you. But her ability to develop novel solutions or to reason through difficult situation is pretty under developed.

Finally, for a moralist, the author left so many points of evil to flourish and to go unpunished by the end of the book. Certainly, the supporting villain (the lawyer for the defense) needed some comeuppance for her part in aiding and abetting criminal activities. A loss is one thing and is veritably a professional setback for her, but what about justice?

At the end, I could never be sure why the protagonist was presented as such when she played such a trivial role in the ultimate success of good over evil?
