When a gray-haired man steps forward from the crowd claiming to be his father, Ned's life is thrown into far deeper turmoil. He'd been told since he was a baby that his parents had died in a car crash. Barely an hour later, his newly found father is stabbed by an unknown assailant in the Ascot parking lot. Blood oozing from his abdomen, his father warns Ned to "be very careful." But of whom? Of what?
Ned finds himself in a race to solve his father's riddle - a race where coming in second could cost him more than even money - it could cost him his life...

Even Money is a good bet
It's been quite a few years since I read Dick Francis. I'm happy I returned for this one by Dick and Felix Francis. The numerous subplots are mostly believable and keep the reader's interest. One also learns the ins and outs of bookmaking at English race tracks and in betting parlors.
My only quibble is with the narrator, who was very good but sounded much older than the 37 year old protagonist he was supposed to be and also sounded a bit more upper class than I would have imagined the typical English bookie.
All things considered, I am very glad that I purchased Even Money. If you like Dick Francis, I believe you will find Even Money a good bet.

Always a winner
I always enjoy listening to Dick Francis' work on audiobook because his writing style translates so nicely into narration. I always know I will have a good audiobook for a long trip when Francis comes out with another novel. Martin Jarvis does a great job narrating the book.
