Publisher's summary

New York Times - best-selling writer C. J. Box returns with a thrilling new novel featuring Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett.

She was gone. Joe Pickett had good reason to dislike Dallas Cates, even if he was a rodeo champion, and now he has even more: Joe's 18-year-old ward, April, has run off with him. And then comes even worse news: The body of a girl has been found in a ditch along the highway - alive but just barely, the victim of blunt-force trauma.

It is April, and the doctors aren't sure if she'll recover. Cates denies having anything to do with it - says she ran away from him, too - and there's evidence that points to another man. But Joe knows in his gut who's responsible. What he doesn't know is the kind of danger he's about to encounter.

Cates is bad enough, but Cates' family is like none Joe has ever met before. Joe's going to find out the truth even if it kills him. But this time it just might.

Another great Chuck Box book!!!

I have a couple of complaints with this book as well as with all of his books. My first complaint is that his books are so enjoyable it is very hard to stop listening to them. Because of this I lose one night of sleep in order to finish the book. My second complaint is that because it takes less than 24 hours to listen to the book I have to wait another 6 months to a year before the next book is released. Thanks Chuck for another great listen! Love narrator David Chandler!

Pickett Fan

This was my first C.J. Box Joe Pickett mystery. Yet I didn't feel lost, as someone starting a series at the 15th book might well be. These are fully developed characters, and the story is self-contained - it stands on its own without backstories. There's a real sense of place and character - in other words, great writing!

Now I have a lot of catching up to do. I will definitely go back to the first book and look forward to learning more about the Pickett universe. If the 15th book is this fresh and new, I can't go wrong.

Best of Box!

I always enjoy the latest Joe Pickett and this one was certainly worth waiting for. The story started off fast and kept going at a breathtaking pace. Yes - Joe ruins another pickup. If you are a Joe Pickett fan this is a five star listen all the way around!

Best one yet

Great story line. Loved the crazy family with the mother in complete control of her boys. Crazy at its best.

Best in Joe Pickett series yet.

This story line was great and kept you thinking trying to put all the pieces together unit the end. Very good job of blending all the elements and characters.

Great Addition To The Series

I will not take the time to write about the plot and storyline, as you can read this in the book description or in other reviews. Box continues to demonstrate his knack of satisfying long time readers while giving sufficient 'back story' to those new to this series. I did have one minor disappointment, which unfortunately many of the current mystery writers engage in. Using 'Endangered' as an illustration, Box uses most of the narrative laying out a very complex series of characters and events, which is great. However, as I see with some of my other favorite mystery writers, there is a tendency to 'cram' a great deal of facts and events into the final few pages, which always leaves me wanting. As someone that has read the entire Joe Pickett series, I am a loyal reader and can't wait for the next book to be released. But in this case, I would have liked to see Mr. Box use more pages (and depth of discussion) to describe the ending, and tie up all the loose ends. But even with that, I highly recommend 'Endangered'.

David Chandler was excellent with the delivery of the story

Excellent Joe Pickett novel!

Endangered is the 15th book in CJ Box's Joe Pickett series. Like most of the others it is superb. It likely has more suspense than most of his other novels. David Chandler does his normal fine job of narration.

Typical Box; atypical box-like narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

C. J. Box is a good writer and has produced some quality books. This is not one of his best but that does not mean it is not worth reading. However, one would think the audiobook producers would find a narrator worthy of the material.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narration had all the warmth and depth of a Dragonspeak production. It was only because of Box that I stuck with the book until its conclusion.

Do you think Endangered needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Truthfully, as much as I like the Pickett series, I think it might be time to give it a rest and start something new. The characters and scenarios they get involved in are starting to show their wear.
