Publisher's Summary

In this electrifying new thriller in the New York Times best-selling series, a convicted murderer is on the run, and Chief of Police Kate Burkholder must catch him before he strikes again.
Eight years ago Joseph King was convicted of murdering his wife and sentenced to life in prison. He was a "fallen" Amish man and, according to local law enforcement, a known drug user with a violent temper. Now King has escaped, and he's headed for Painters Mill.
News of a murderer on the loose travels like wildfire and puts Chief of Police Kate Burkholder and her team of officers on edge. A nightmare scenario becomes reality when King shows up with a gun and kidnaps his five children from their Amish uncle's house. He's armed and desperate, with nothing left to lose.
Fearing for the safety of the children, Kate leaps into action, but her frantic search for a killer leads her into an ambush. When King releases her unharmed, asking her to prove his innocence, she begins to wonder whether the police are hiding something, and she embarks on her own investigation to discover the truth.

Down A Dark Road does not disappoint!

Down A Dark Road is the ninth book in The Kate Burkholder series by Linda Castillo and it does not disappoint.
First I'd like to say that the narrator, Kathleen McInerney is by far one of the best narrators out there. We all know narration can help make or break an audiobook and McInerney's delivery undoubtedly helps make this a hit. I'm amazed at how she's able to make each of the characters distinct and recognizable by giving them the perfect voice. Great job!!!
Secondly, Linda Castillo has "slam dunked" another hit in this series. From the time I started listening to Down A Dark Road I found myself immersed within it, ignoring everyone and everything until the audiobook was finished. I especially love how with each book in this series Castillo's words allow us small glimpses into the private lives of the Amish. She is a talented mystery writer who keeps readers on the edge of their seats & spices things up by adding a splash of romance to the mix. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This series continues to be a compelling "listen" for me and always leaves me wanting more. Well worth the credit.
