Publisher's summary

Most humans have no idea that a dark and deadly underworld, filled with magic and monsters, exists. They wander through life blissfully ignorant of the supernatural world around them. Nora Jacobs is different. Nora knows exactly what kinds of hellish creatures haunt the streets of Detroit.

Thanks to a unique set of psychic abilities, Nora has managed to steer clear of the underworld most of her life. But all that changes the night the most powerful vampire in the city discovers her gifts and decides to use her as a tool to find one of his missing clan members.

As if that's not bad enough, Nora believes she's cursed. All her life, people, especially men, have been drawn to her - some to the point of obsession and violence. Underworlders, it seems, are not immune to this curse, and now she's caught the attention of some of the most dangerous monsters in the city. Neck deep in an investigation only she can solve, Nora quickly makes as many new allies as she does enemies. Her biggest problem is staying alive long enough to decide which is which.

Contains mature themes.

Excellent story

I was hunting for a new author and fingers crossed hopefully a good one...Ms.May’s tale had some of the stumbles of any authors first book..but I think she will gain the experience and polish with time...I’m thinking she’s gonna be a premier author in the urban fantasy field..I can’t wait to hear the rest of her tale!

Loved it

This is my first book narrated by Hollie Jackson and I really enjoyed her performance. I enjoyed the large cast of paranormals in the book. Looking forward to the next book

Good book. Narrator sucks.

i would recommend reading the book, if you have time, instead of listening to it.

Good story but the men turned to boys

I liked the book until the end, when the exhausted heroine had to boost the men’s attitudes. It began to feel like a reverse harem book and made the “men” seem like boys that needed a mother figure.

Fantastic story with a great narrator

I originally found this story in the Moments app (Detroit Underworld) and loved it so much, I decided to start reading the books.

This was a great story with characters you fall in love with. Definitively looking forward to the next book!

One of my favorite Reverse Harem series so far

I love the set up of this series, and the fact that it’s a slow burn. Nora Jacobs isn’t the typical Mary Jane you often get with these types of books either. She’s strong at heart, but knows when she needs help, and has real feelings and responses that make sense to me. Nothing is worse than the damsel in distress who needs someone to save her at every turn. Oh, she for sure finds herself in trouble more than the average person, but for the story it actually makes sense, and she’s smart about how she handles things. It’s really a breath of fresh air.
I enjoyed the narration personally. The only “complaint” I might have is that she seems to have a similar voice for all of the men, and they don’t tend to have the energy that the women do, but seeing as it’s a woman doing the narration it makes enough sense

Great new series!!!

This book is sookie with a couple of twists, which is a good thing. I liked the story, the narrator as always was amazing. It took me a long time to find a new series and I am glad I did. Nora is smart and able to stand up for her self. This author was able to make more realistic smart women rather than a whiny, rude, brat. I say give the series a try if you loved the sookie novels you will also love this one.
