Publisher's Summary

In the village of Castle Farthing a mean-spirited, spiteful, curmudgeonly old man is found drugged and strangled in his cottage, with no obvious clues to the perpetrator of the crime.
DI Falconer and Acting DS Carmichael are summoned from the police headquarters in the nearby town of Market Darley and begin to uncover a web of grudges against the old man.
As the heat of July continues relentlessly, tempers flare, disturbing the usual rural calm of the village and the normally imperturbable Harry Falconer. Faced with a crime with no obvious prime suspect, he feels that he is gradually losing his grip on the case as the body count rises....

Good Solid Cozy Cottage Mystery

Another good solid mystery by Andrea Frazer..
I must admit though .. not nearly as entertaining as her other series .. its always uproariously funny characters are a laugh a minute..
Do yourself a favor and listen to those.. really good stuff..

An easy though bizarre solution

The writing itself is engaging. And Mr. Griffin, as always, narrates it all very well. I never mind the lack of alteration in dialogue delivery of different characters, as long as the voice and overall diction of the narrator, is consistently lucid and pleasing. And so, Mr. Griffin is wonderful. The mystery though, was far from complex. I had it all figured out very early on, and even whilst I came upon the solution, I found it as bizarre as when it actually unfurled in the plot. May be I’ll give other books by the author a try, hoping for a more intriguing time to be had. Because the writing, as I noted before, was fine.
