Hamish Macbeth—Always a fun listen!
Hamish Macbeth, the local constable, is a man unto himself. He lives contentedly in the remote Scottish village of Lochdubh in the local police station, wanting little out of life than to fish, roam the hills, enjoy the residents of the town, and simply do his job. He totally lacks ambition, and works hard to avoid notice and promotion.
Then one day Crystal French, a starlet from a tv station roars into his village, and he stops her for speeding. She finds she can’t bribe her way out of a way out of a fine, and since she is on her way to film a feature story about Lochdubh, she lets it be known that she will interview Hamish and portray him in a miserable light for revenge. The local newspaper reporter, Elspeth Grant, is writing wild astrological predictions for a column in the paper. In a misguided effort to get Crystal to back off Hamish, she writes one that suggests Crystal should stay inside this day to avoid dying. And of course, the rest is history—or mystery!
The Hamish Macbeth series are always a great listen. I’ve listened to these village characters for so long, they are stating to be like old friends. The stories are light, often a little funny, and end satisfactorily. And I love the narration of Graeme Malcolm. If you are seeking something that will just leave you smiling, and also a good mystery, this book—this whole series—could just be it!
