Betrayal Retaliation Money & Revenge

What made the experience of listening to Deadly Stillwater the most enjoyable?

New author (to me), old concept with a new twist. Great characters. Totally took me by surprise.

Have you listened to any of Johnny Peppers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I've listened to Johnny Peppers. I thought he did a good job.

Any additional comments?

This was a totally unexpected surprise. It was on a list of books that I might like based on previous purchases. I usually ignore those because I rarely find anything I like with their suggestions. So this one turned out to be a real page turner. It has Feds gone bad, one is blackmailed by another who served prison time for stealing evidence and selling it. Others antaganists who feel the justice system has done them and their family wrong, and the there is the protagonist (Mac) and his team of Super Cops trying to save the lives of two kidnapped college students who have been buried alive, one who is a diabetic. You know the kidnappers have no intention of letting them go. Wow, this story is put together! Lots of clues along the way, it's a race right up to the last chapter. I really enjoyed this and Highly Recommend it.

This superb thriller series keeps getting better!

The Mac McRyan mystery series (this is Book 3) is a superb police procedural thriller. McRyan's assistant district attorney girlfriend Sally Kennedy played a smaller role in this novel than the prior one. In Deadly Stillwater there is lots of action and near constant suspense as the lives of two kidnapped teenage girls are at risk. The novel is set in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mac McRyan is a fourth generation cop with a law degree with honors. Book 4, Electing to Murder, is up next.

Narration by Johnny Peppers is flawless.

Payback's a ...

Another great story by Roger Stelljes and narration by Johnny Peppers. The voice for one of the characters was surprising, unnerving and quite effective. This story kept my heart pounding and I could hardly stop listening.

Just Love This Series!

Mac McRyan is a great detective, and for once there is actually a police department where most of the people like each other.

New author for me. LOVED IT!!

OH MY GOSH!!! And let me tell you all it blew me outta the water. They say that revenge is a dish best served cold. The twists and turns of this tale kept me rocking on the edge of my seat 'til I thought I would lose my ever loving mind. First one of these I have read... I need to go back and find the rest.

Smart Villains...Smarter Cops

This is a great story, with smart villains and even smarter cops. An interesting story with a plot that keeps you guessing. Loyalty, deceit, pride, corruption. This novel contains them all.

Surprisingly Good Fast Paced Police Procedural

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend this to readers who enjoy crime drama, police intrigue, low key thrillers ... it's not an edge of your seat thriller but is a steady, fast paced, well researched police procedural - I think what I liked best -- there were times I was rooting for the criminals - it involves a dark, twisted kidnapping of two teens who are hidden in the worst way imaginable but somehow I related to the bad guys almost as much as I related to the white hats - very unusual for me.

What other book might you compare Deadly Stillwater to and why?

I am not a big police procedural or police thriller fan so I have nothing to compare it to -- but it does have a James Patterson blush and in fact I like it better than most the James Patterson novels I've read/listened to (I had the Kindle and the audiobook).

Which scene was your favorite?

Absolutely loved the river trips and the river chase - big water fan here and I have online friends in Minnesota so it was really fun to hear so much detail about the area -- I kinda understand now why they endure the sweltering summers and the Arctic winters - I like my south with mild winters! At 70 degrees I'm reaching for a sweater.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was touched at how the teens took care of one another during their ordeal and horrified at what the criminals did to them. I am extremely claustrophobic and was deeply moved by their predicament.

Any additional comments?

Give Stelljis a shot - I loved the book so much that I am now on to The St, Paul Conspiracy.
