Publisher's summary

May the best man die!

In July of 1923, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple travels to Henley-on-Thames to visit her aunt and uncle, as well as to work on her latest writing assignment: covering the Henley Royal Regatta for an American magazine.

Daisy plans a simple trip researching her article, enjoying the races, and, come the weekend, having a pleasant time with her fiancé, Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard. But the tensions between the Ambrose team's coxswain, Horace Bott - a shopkeeper's son and scholarship student at Oxford - and rower Basil DeLancey - the younger son of an earl and all-around bounder - are constantly threatening to erupt into violence.

The day after losing a race thanks to Bott's overindulgence the night before, DeLancey keels over and dies mid-race. Foul play is immediately suspected, with Bott the logical suspect. But nothing is obvious in this tangled web of jealousies and secrets, and while Inspector Fletcher investigates the murder, Daisy once again must ferret out the truth.

Narrator is dreadful

I cannot wait to get past the books she reads. I agree with Rosamond’s Foghorn Leghorn comparison. Her English accents are all over the place. Half the time I thought Alec was Daisy, and vice versa. Very confusing. And she just couldn’t make the period slang sound natural. I’m only listening to the books she narrated because I want to keep track of the long view plots. It’s a tough slog. I like the books themselves very much. In all the hard news of the world, I was looking for something light but not stupid. These are fun. Hoping my eye surgery allows me to read hard copy again!

Daisey Dives for Clues!

Darling Daisy Dalrymple is at it again! She doesn't actually dive for clues but still gets dumked in the Thames when she visits an aunt to watch the boat races. Once again it is great fun!

Oh my

Hard to believe that once again Daisy finds another body. Oh well, when she has Alec by her side they make quite the team.

Pronunciation

The pronunciation is all over the place which distracts from the story even the French.

Not as exciting as the previous

This was the first of the series that I found myself not caring about as much. Still a cute story, but something about it just didn't really grab me like the others have. I'm hoping the next will be better.

Narrator

I love this narrator. She makes the mens voices sound like men and so many womens voices so differently. A+
