Publisher's summary

The honeymoon will have to wait for newlyweds Mattie Winston and Steve Hurley...

As deputy medical examiner and homicide detective, respectively, the couple are dispatched to a grisly crime scene at the Grizzly Motel, a seedy joint for illicit liaisons on the outskirts of Sorenson, Wisconsin. A man and woman are found dead next to each other in bed in what initially appears to be a grim but straightforward murder-suicide. An affair gone sour? But as the forensic evidence is gathered and autopsies are performed, Mattie and Hurley realize the scene has been staged. They have a double murder on their hands. The spurned spouses of both victims top the list of suspects, but as more is revealed, the case becomes increasingly complex.

Dividing their time and resources between the double homicide and an ongoing investigation involving Mattie's father, as well as caring for their toddler, Matthew, and Hurley’s teenaged daughter, Emily, the two are stretched to their limits. After another victim turns up dead, there's no room for error as Mattie and Hurley stage a scene of their own to back the killer into a corner...

fantastic storylines that all intertwined.

loved this book. i am so hoping this series will continue until Matthew goes off to college. and beyond. i was so happy with how this ended. dry eyes until the very last scene. the last line made me cry...in a good way. so so happy... now to wait for next book in series. it will be worth it.

Another great installment

I really enjoy this series, but lately, Matthew steals the show. I love it when he talks!

One of the reasons I like this series is that not everyone is rich or brilliant. they are a bit more normal than your average mystery. I don't love the mystery that is continued between books, but I always enjoy the mystery specific to the book. The over-arching mystery seems to be resolved, hopefully, but it ended with a whimper instead of a bang. Did stop me from loving this book!

Totally enjoyable!

Love all of Ryan's audiobooks. Great characters and Jorjeana Marie's reading captures them perfectly. Highly recommended.

5 Stars

Annelise Ryan does it again. Maddie and Hurley are a great team. Their characters, and the supporting characters, are realistic and very well developed. The mystery is well plotted and complex, which isn't often found in cozy mysteries. There is also just enough balance of humor and quirky characters without being silly. Annelise Ryan is a great writer and I look forward to the next book.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed the story although it did get confusing for me when she would mention past cases. I thought the narrator was good and the story was good for light listening.

good, but predictably at times

plots cleverly woven together. dragged a bit at times, but overall an entertaining story. I would recommend it.

convoluted and not realistic

I struggled to finish this. Too many characters with similar names. Procedurally, it was laughable. Random uncessicary info dumps.
