Publisher's summary

In this propulsive novel, one of the most idiosyncratically brilliant writers at work in any language fuses science fiction, the hard-boiled thriller, and white-hot satire into a new element of the literary periodic table.

As he searches for a mysteriously vanished girlfriend, Haruki Murakami's protagonist plunges into a wind tunnel of sexual violence and metaphysical dread in which he collides with call girls, plays chaperone to a lovely teenaged psychic, and receives cryptic instructions from a shabby but oracular Sheep Man.

Dance Dance Dance is a tense, poignant, and often hilarious ride through the cultural Cuisinart that is contemporary Japan, a place where everything that is not up for sale is up for grabs.

The narrator is perfect

This guy should narrate all of Murakami's books. He captured the mood so well. Overall, another great story from Murakami

Absolutely wonderful as usual

The usual completely fantastic Murakami perfection. Murakami again did not disappoint me, effortlessly transported me to a world I could never have imagined. Thank you Haruki!

Worth it for Murakami fans

This may not be his singular work of genius but it’s definitely Murakami doing his thing. I’m a big fan of his abs this was definitely engaging and interesting. The narrator was overall very solid.

Wonderful performance and a Murakami story

Murakami is not for everyone, it almost feels to me that you’ll have to get aquatint first before you feel comfortable in the story. Listening to it is a very different experience from reading it. I just love Murakami everything because I relate a lot, but again it’s not for everyone. Since it’s included in the membership, give it try and see if it’s for you.

Another Gem by Murakame

Magic, sex, complicated relations and careers Murakame takes you to 1980s Tokyo and leaves you there with the rest of his characters.

Disturbing story

Skillful writer and great performance. But the story is pretty disturbing. Blurs reality and dreams.

Did not care about the characters

The narrator sounds about the same as all of Murakami’s main characters. And a lot of the other characters talk the same way as the supporting characters in other Murakami books. But I couldn’t bring myself to care about any of them in Dance Dance Dance, and the lack of any plot whatsoever made it a slog that could not get through. Sad. I love Murakami’s detailed writing style which is like a Japan immersion. But this is my least favorite of his books (I’ve read maybe 5). Also, the relationship with the 12 year old is extremely cringey. Wish I’d taken a pass on this one.

Perfect narration

First Murakami I thoroughly enjoyed. The writing is excellent but the narrator’s voice is transformative.

Third Wheel

Perhaps that was much more of a realistic honest description of our modern day protagonist . The hero tends to be  passive, neutral and never in the driver seat.

Much like the Trial or the Stranger, life prior to the introduction of the handful of characters wasn't worth mentioning yet the story line flow and will hook you immediately.

By far One of my favorite narration I found myself completely immersed.

Great introduction to Murakami work if you haven't read anything by the author before.
