Publisher's summary

Lamin Michaels learned at his mother's knee the importance of chasing paper, so it's no surprise he gets into the drug game when he's just a teenager. When he meets Zion, a product of the New York City foster care and prison systems, Lamin knows he's met the perfect partner in crime. Together they build a huge narcotics empire.

Then Lamin falls hard for a beautiful girl named Lucky. Lucky makes Lamin realize there's more to life than cash and more cash. When Lamin goes legit with a career in the entertainment industry, Zion tries to keep their business going on both the street and the boardroom. It's not long before Zion becomes the target of a corruption scandal involving murder, extortion, and money laundering. Once the dirt is exposed, will Lamin and Zion be able to remain one step ahead, or will their paper-chasing days haunt them forever?

Absolutely enjoyable story

This book kept my attention throughout reminding me that life has a way of putting an obstacle in front of you. It reinforces that you can become a product of your environment when being raised. Good story.

What ? This was good!

Tracy girl you did it I’m sorry that it’s taken me six years to find and listen to this book. But I’ll tell you that I am crawling through all these audio books to see if there is a follow up in the past 6 years.

When I tell you you were only here with everything there was so many twists and turns. I’m glad you didn’t let Lucky and Lameen get back together cuz that’s how it always turns out. Then she has to live with his downfall, oh HELL NO. She was a good girl and gave up so much for him. Then just and is soon as he gets the opportunity he runs and Marry somebody else to teach her a lesson, really good for his ass!

Ok, for freebie

Another hood story, gone according to normal outcome. Pops was entertaining. Sadly the men couldn't get their lives together. Curtis jealousy was too much, for a man. I hate Lamin and Lucy didn't make it. Atleast Olivia and Zin got it together. I liked the narrator but not for this book.

Good story

I could relate to so many things in this story. I thought as soon a Lamein went legit it was a bad idea to make Zion a drug dealer his partner. Curtis got on my nerves. I needed Lucky to have a little more hood when she caught him cheating. Pops was my favorite he just sounded cool. The narrator is my favorite of all time. I did struggle here and there just because some of it was predictable and the characters kept doing stupid stuff. But overall it's a Yassss for me.

Life Lessons Learned

Tracy Brown has done it again. A lot of life lessons learned in this book. Family is everything, you reap what you sow, word is bond, listen to your gut, as fast as you can get it, you can lose it, the love of money is the root of all evil, envy and jealousy is an incurable disease, humble yourself and most important to me was forgiveness.

I was able to understand the background and current life of each character. I loved the grandparents, especially grandpa! He had a lot of nuggets to give. I was loving Lamin until ..(I will not spoil it). Lucky was cool with me and I had a lot of respect for her. She was a real ride or die. She was real, supportive and had some respect for herself. I loved this about her. Zion is cool as a fan. Olivia is cute, crazy, smart and spoiled. Then there is Curtis .. he is who he is.

The title ties in well with the story plot.

Good read and listen! I love the narrator Nicole Smalls.
