Publisher's Summary

Based on the Doubleday Crime Club book series, Crime Club burst onto the airways as a 30-minute murder mystery hosted by Barry Thompson. Each week's episode started with a phone ringing twice, then answered by Thompson in his eerie voice "I hope I haven't kept you waiting. Yes, this is the Crime Club. I'm the librarian." (Radio show aficionados will recognize Thompson as the spooky voice of The Inner Sanctum Mysteries.) These 29 commercial-free episodes represent the best of one of old-time radio's crime dramas. Excellent stories, acting, and production values make for a great listen. Each episode has been digitally remastered.

Excellent Old-Time Radio Series

Where does Crime Club rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Pretty much at the top for radio.

Who was your favorite character and why?

This is an anthology series--each episode a stand-alone--but the host of the program is a kick.

What about Barry Thompson’s performance did you like?

This short-lived series [1940s] was a weekly, hosted by the "librarian," who introduced each episode, taken from books published by "The Crime Club."

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Actually, no. That would be overkill [no pun intended]. This book is to be savored--perhaps an episode or two each night.

Any additional comments?

The writing and acting on this radio series is excellent. The series was tied to crime fiction published by the chief sponsor.
