The green-eyed daughter of a Cuban patriot killed by Castro's firing squad; she has a tender spot for the city's underdogs, but is smart and tough enough to pursue a story no matter where it takes her. When cops on the midnight shift chase a black motorist, the fleeing man, a professional football hero, winds up dead. Britt's investigation reveals the tragic truth. As the city she loves explodes into a major riot, Britt is caught up in life-threatening events that bring about a shocking climax.
"A few cartoonish cast members don't diminish the impact of Buchanan's closely observed and affectionately portrayed stars, her extremely likable heroine and Miami at night." (Publishers Weekly)
"Formulaic, but Montero's a charmer and her story seethes with the street-life that her creator knows so well: first-rate entertainment." (Kirkus Reviews)

The reading was just that a reading. No difference in the characters at all. I read the books some years ago and for some reason hearing it read by Erin didn't make much of an impact. Almost like I read a different book. Maybe a stronger reader would help.
