Publisher's Summary

Investigative journalist Maxine "Max" Revere is covering the high-profile New York City trial of serial killer Adam Bachman, and Max is excited when she's granted a rare interview with him. She has a lot to ask him, and she's also hoping to find out if Bachman knows anything about a couple who's been missing since the week before his arrest. But her time with him doesn't go quite as planned.
Max isn't fazed by much, but Bachman gets under her skin - he seems to know a lot more about her than he should. In fact Max starts to wonder if Bachman might not be working alone. Could he have a partner on the outside?
Max is determined to get to the truth. But if her suspicions are correct, she might be walking into a lot of trouble. The kind of trouble no one - not the man she's seeing, Detective Nick Santorini; not her ex, FBI Special Agent Marco Lopez - can help her out of. The kind of trouble that could cost her life.

The storyline is predictable, but if you read the last Max Revere book you know about what to expect; however, the narration is poor. Ms. Floss might be fine reading bedtime stories or as a single person, but her attempts at several characters is just bad. Also, the book itself has too many melodramatic moments that are poorly written involving two female characters. To top it all off Audible has the wrong reviews attached to this! What comes up is reviews for another book titled "Compulsion" by a completely different author. I have notified them three times without any corrective action on their part. Lip service, poor service. I am returning this book.

I love this series!

The narrator kind of annoyed me a little bit. I'm not sure what it was about her, but... yeah, a bit annoying. The story was great. I randomly bought the first book in this series and couldn't be happier that I did. Max can get a little annoying because she is very arrogant, but at the same time that's what I love about her. The story is fast paced and the relationship development between her and David us great. I definitely recommend it.
