Publisher's summary

The Cove (read by Sandra Burr): The Cove is a quaint little postcard town made up only of old folk who sell the World's Greatest Ice Cream - a secret recipe that brings lots of tourists into town.

Into The Cove comes Sally Brainerd, daughter of murdered Amory St. John of Washington, D.C., seeking sanctuary, and FBI Special Agent James Quinlan who's undercover and after her. He's got a murder to solve, and he believes she's the key. But is she really?

The Maze (read by Susan Ericksen): Lacey Sherlock's life is forever changed when her older sister's body is discovered in an abandoned warehouse. She is the fourth victim of the String Killer, the name given by the media to a murderer who leads his victims into a maze with a ball of twine. Seven years after Belinda's death, Lacey, now an FBI agent, is paired up with computer whiz Dillon Savich, who has developed a predictive program to aid in the apprehension of serial killers.

When the String Killer strikes again, Lacey spots his handiwork, resulting in his capture. The suspect confesses, but maintains that he did not kill Belinda. No sooner does Lacey confirm his innocence of that crime, than an attempt is made on her life. Suspecting her attacker is the same person who murdered her sister, Lacey and Dillon know they must solve the mystery - before they become the killer's next victims.

The Target (read by Sharon Williams): Hoping to escape unwanted celebrity in the aftermath of a notorious incident, Ramsey Hunt settles in the Rockies, determined to bury himself in the safety of a solitary existence. But his isolation is shattered when he stumbles upon a small girl unconscious in the high-altitude forest. When strangers pursue Ramsey to his private meadow in an attempt to kill him and the girl, he's mystified that anyone would wish her harm. And the child can't shed any light on the subject: she's mute.

Molly Santera, the girl's mother, catches up with Ramsey and her daughter, mistaking her daughter's savior for a kidnapper. But soon Ramsey's real role becomes clear. With the strangers in pursuit, the trio flees to Chicago for sanctuary. Even there, however, the child's enemies prove as relentless as their motives are baffling.

With an unexpected assist from FBI agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock (last seen in The Maze), Molly and Ramsey begin to unravel the clues, and in the process they make an astonishing discovery as to the true nature of the target.

The Maze & The Target: 5 Star...The Maze: 3 Star..

This was my first time listening to a Catherine Coulter audiobook. Anyway, once I started listening to her first book in the FBI Thriller Series I thought it was awful. I assumed it was her first book she'd ever written and she hadn't gotten her feet under her. I hoped the following books would be better as her skills as a writer grew. So, I checked and found that I was SO wrong, she had written approximately 41 books before "The Cove". After learning that, I almost returned the audiobook containing her first three books of the FBI Thriller Series without listening any further. However, I decided to give it another hour or so of listening time before calling it quits, and I'm glad I did. During that time, I realized that it really wasn't the novel that was so awful, it was the narration (in my opinion) or performance by the person reading the novel. I continued to struggle through realizing the novel was actually pretty good. I completed that first of the three having decided to give the next novel on that audiobook, "The Maze", a chance. I'm glad I did. The second was narrated by a different person, and that made all the difference in the world! "The Maze" was very good- both the novel and the narration. Finally, I finished with "The Target" which I thought was awesome!! If not for the narration of that first book, I would have given this audiobook 5 stars all the way across. I had to deduct something for, what I personally considered to be, a very poor performance (but only of the first book).

I'm planning on listening to the audiobooks of all 20 novels in Coulter's FBI Thriller Series. I really hope I don't come across another poor performance. I really did enjoy the storyline more and more as I read through those first three and I'm sure it will continue to get better and better!

Happy Reading/Listening!

Why is this writer so popular?

This was on a "recommended for you' blurb from Audible-probablly because I'd just bought another Nora Roberts book. I admit it, I'm hooked on Nora, especially her alter ego J D Robb and protagonist cop Eve Dallas.

I'd seen books by Coulter for years but never been tempted. This was a "Three For 1 Credit" deal so I grabbed it.

What a waste! The first novel, "The Cove" was so tedious and full of ageist remarks that it made me clench my jaws. The woman protagonist is a simpering idiot ...and thats as far as I cared to go.

I seldom quit a book mid story. Usually, even if I don't care for the story or narrator I'll still finish the novel. I couldn't stand one more word from the narrator for "The Cove" and even a favorite narrator Susan Erickson, who narrates all of Robb's Eve Dallas stories, didn't save the second book.

I gave Performance 3 stars..one for each narrator, isn't that fair?

If you're hooked on Couter, you'll most likely love the thick book, if not-don't bother. It's a total bore full of cliches.

It's going back and I'm not tempted to try another Catherine Coulter book. No loss for me!

Janet Coulter audio book review

I purchased the three-for 1 credit and am sorry that I did. I found these three to be very vanilla and sort of juvenile. I stayed with them but I do not feel that my credit was well spent despite the total combined length of these three stories.

just completed the Cove

I had already read all available A Brit in the FBI and enjoyed them very much. I almost did not start this series because of reviews. However , in my opinion, I found The Cove to be just as good as A Brit in the FBI series. I look forward to reading this entire series

Sadly disappointed in these books

I could not even get through the third book. The first two books seemed like they were going to get better so I kept listening however they just kept falling flat. I'm not sure if the readers were the reason or if the story was just boring...sorry for the bad review but I would have never gotten these and wasted a credit.

I was expecting a thriller, not romance cheese.

Any additional comments?

Did not enjoy the narrator of the cove at all, but my biggest problem was the super cheesy romance scenarios. Aren't there some kind of rules preventing FBI agents from doing material witnesses and suspects? Why was such a painfully obvious truth not even glossed over, but just blatantly ignored? I'm just finishing up the maze, which would have been an okay story if not for the ridiculous love parts - despite how improbable the entire scenario was. Still, I couldn't be less invested in this story. I will be returning this book and will never waste my time or credits with this author again.
