Publisher's Summary

A circus stakeout puts Toby Peters at the bottom of the food chain....
The gorilla doesn’t like clowns. Normally that wouldn’t bother Toby Peters, since detective work tends to keep him far away from animal cages, but tonight he’s dressed as a clown and locked in with the ape. The animal’s handler told him not to worry - gorillas don’t eat people. They just like to tear their arms and legs off.
What the ape doesn’t understand is that Peters is here for his protection. Earlier that week, someone electrocuted an elephant, and the gorilla, as one of the star attractions in this second-rate circus, is next on the hit list. Someone is killing animals to kill the circus, and if that doesn’t work they may move on to human prey. Toby Peters has a shot at unraveling this big top mystery, as long as he survives his night in the gorilla’s cage.

Loved It

What made the experience of listening to Catch a Falling Clown the most enjoyable?

I love these wonderful novels and have read most of them. I am now listening to each of the audio book versions offered here. The writing is a warm apple pie with ice cream - comforting and delicious at the same time. The narrators however, make a huge difference to my enjoyment of the audio book. (The VERY best narrator of this series is the unsurpassed George Guidall-not offered here - WHY?!). Jim Meskerman though, is really good. He reads lovingly with gentle pathos and humor. His voices are excellent. His version of Alfred Hitchcock is awesome!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Toby is always my favorite character. These are his stories, told in his voice. He is Peter Pan and Sam Spade rolled into one. I

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where Emmett Kelly does his Weary Willy act one night at the circus. Toby is standing to the side watching Kelly and the crowd. Toby is filled with admiration and love for the star and vows to do his best for him. It is a moving and lovely scene.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Any additional comments?

Start at the beginning of the series - but do listen. The books are a fun filled romp through the years surrounding WWII. I think you will enjoy them.
