Publisher's summary

The privileged world of horse racing, filled with sleek thoroughbreds, burnished leather, and the silken sheen of jockeys’ colors, is a wonderful place to spend a few hours. Let bestselling, internationally popular author Dick Francis take you to the immaculate stables of the de Brescou estate, where dark forces are lurking.

Someone is killing the de Brescou racehorses with a “bolt” gun, shooting them silently, leaving no clues. Before the noble family, which includes his fiancée, is torn apart, jockey Kit Fielding must find the assassin.

There are higher stakes than the horses, though. The de Brescous could lose control of their family business as well.

Bolt spent 13 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. From regal countesses to dapper racing officials, it puts you in the company of truly intriguing characters.

“The plot races along wonderfully well, right up to a jolting twist at the end.”—Publishers Weekly

Probably my favorite Dick Francis.

One of the Kit Fielding books, typical Francis creates a character who is noble and wise, yet so humble. Lots of racing action in this one, and I love that the protagonist is a jockey so you get so much insight. Never a dull moment in this read. One of his best. And Simon Prebble is such a great narrator.

An old favorite

The audio brought back the pleasure of this story after many years. I read the book twenty years or so ago, but the story didn't feel dated.

Outstanding

Fast moving, well written and read. Dick Francis never disappoints me. His books always send me to an atlas to see where the story is located.

Read this one Second

This is the second of two mysteries that feature Kit Fielding. The first is "Break In." As ever, Francis writes great and Prebble reads great. There's really not much more to say....

A new discovery !

Of course I new all about Dick Francis for years but was never tempted to read his books. I had teconceived ideas I suppose. Thrillers about horse racing were not my cup of tea at all I like murder mysteries, police procedural etc. How wrong I was. I read the first book in this series ( this is the second one) because it was on sale and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I was so wrong there is murder and mystery a fantastic hero who is sensitive and a winning jockey. Simon prebble is the most amazing narrator and I did learn a lot about horse racing which may come in handy in another life! I was surprised at how beautifully Dick Francis writes and I appreciate the depth and understanding he gives his female characters he obviously likes women and admires there strength not something you always come across in thrillers . Read “Break in “ First.

Love Dick Francis!

Thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Narrator Simon Prebble does an excellent job, and I can't imagine listening to a Dick Francis book without him.

Vintage Dick Francis

Dick Francis writes interesting novels with an appealing hero and a villainous villain. Honor and duty play a big part in this short novel and good wins the day. But the plot moves forward with vigor and the characters (other than the villain) are nicely drawn and vivid. Francis writes the racing scenes exceedingly well and I almost feel like I'm on the horse along with the jockey. Light reading and very entertaining.

The narrator is excellent, lending much to the book.
