This is such a good book, I am actually a little surprised. Based on the description I really wasn't sure what to expect. To me the description sounds like there is some sort of communication between the past and present. There's not.
Anyway, the actual story is that Matthew Roarke, (the investigator on leave because of Cara) begins an in depth look into her beginnings trying to get a clear understanding of her past. At the same time he's doing this you get the narrative of her her past in her words as he discovers her reality. The two converge towards the end. I will not spoil this for anyone, it worth the listen.
For people who are fascinated with this series as I am, this book is very enlightening as gives much background info how this woman's personality was formed.
For anyone who has never read/listened to any of the Huntress Moon series I would recommend that they be listened to in order. Each book builds on the previous and there is carryover from one to the next that can't be appreciated otherwise.
R C Bray narrates this book as well as the others in this series. If you've never listened to him before he is GREAT! I initially found this series when searching for books that he narrated.

Patience has never been one of my virtues, when I want something I want it now, and waiting for a new book in a series is agonizing. I lucked out with the The Huntress/FBI Thrillers, in that I could listen to the first three right away and I didn’t have long to wait for book 4. But even though I was contacted about getting an ARC of Bitter Moon in audiobook format, come 11/1/16 when it was released I still didn’t have it and I couldn’t wait. I am a bit obsessive that way and purchased it first thing in the am when I woke up. And I do mean as soon as I rolled out of bed. Then of course my ARC copy came two days later….Figures.
Bitter Moon is the perfect example of the way a thriller should be written! It also sets the bar for a dual POV book that jumps from two different time lines/periods seamlessly. The writing and the flow of the story was flawless.
Roarke and Cara are both tracking the same killer just in two different times. Roarke trying to tie up loose ends on Cara’s case winds up stumbling on an old cold case that he is compelled to investigate. Cara at 14 once again finds herself in a dangerous situation with IT all around her. We go back in time and see how she became the Huntress, what drove her and how she evolved.
What I love most about Sokoloff’s book is that they make you think and open your eyes to the atrocities that are happening. The fact that there is a national backlog on rape kit processing. WTF is that! I had no idea! I’ve done my own research on this and the numbers are staggering and unacceptable!
Sokoloff is a brilliant writer and true advocate for women and children. The way she is using this series to enlighten her readers on some true horrors against woman and children in the USA is brilliant and has opened my eyes.
I love this series and Cara is an avenging angel sent to right the wrongs and protect the weak. I can’t wait to read the next one. Bitter Moon is getting a HUGE Five Boundless stars from me....Sara
