Publisher's summary

The Axis of Evil had the perfect strategy. Destroy the heartbeat of America. Invade with their million man army. But there was one thing they didn't count on...Texas.

Once again, political suspense collides with post-apocalyptic thriller fiction as sixteen-time bestselling author, Bobby Akart (The Blackout Series, The Pandemic Series, The Boston Brahmin Series and the Prepping for Tomorrow Series) intertwines historical fact with plausible fiction in The Lone Star Series.

For decades, American administrations have forced our military to be neutered in many respects - hampered by restrained rules of engagement, passed in strength by Russia and China, and tested by rogue nations like North Korea and Iran. As a result, nuclear Armageddon hangs over us like a mighty sword.

Military analysts agree that the United States can't start World War III. Why? We might lose. Sabers are rattling and the war of words escalate between America and her enemies, but the rhetoric has done little to stop the nuclear proliferation of North Korea and Iran. When the deep state, a close-knit group of powerful, influential people within our government challenges a new, untested President, things go awry.

The decisions made in the darkened rooms of Washington have a profound impact on ordinary Americans like the Armstrong family, Texas ranchers who spend their time making a living, but also preparing for the worst. As most of the family lives their life in Texas, one of them will unknowingly be the catalyst for World War III.

About the Lone Star Series

Political suspense collides with post-apocalyptic thriller fiction with the Lone Star Series by Bestselling Author Bobby Akart. A devastating EMP attack thrusts most of America into darkness, except for one state which has taken the steps to protect its power grid Texas.

World War III is imminent and a new President faces terrible choices as she navigates the shark-infested waters of Washington, and the geopolitical complexities around the world.

From Washington to Austin to a ranch in West Texas, decisions are made to protect the lives of Americans, some of which are considered selfish, rather than for people s survival.

The Lone Star series is designed to be the most thought-provoking post-apocalyptic series ever written. It will be a reminder to us all that...

One day, tomorrow won't come.

An Introduction To Your Next Favorite Series

You Never Know When The Day Before Is The Day Before (An Introduction To Your Next Favorite Series)

4.5 out of 5 stars

Axis of Evil starts off a few places introducing a few characters. A bull rider and a rancher are the two main introductions and we find out a little into the book that they are from the same family. We’re also introduced to a special operator that is sent all over the world doing secretive “SEAL-type” missions. We find out that the matriarch of the family is a homesteader-turned-prepper.

I have to say, I’m pretty excited for this series. I really enjoyed The Blackout and the Pandemic series by Akart and I need to revisit (read as I need to finish) the Boston Brahmin series too. Maybe when in between when each one of these books is released but Akart seems to have a pretty aggressive month-after-month release schedule planned for The Lone Star Series.

The first and major thing I will say about Axis of Evil is that it is most definitely a set-up style book. I can tell that Akart is setting into motion a chain of events that will all seem to happen at the same time. I can’t tell which book will start it off but it feels like the start of book 2 could really go with a bang (literally). I had a feeling that this was going to set the story up and be more of a “Pre-Apocalyptic” book compared to Akart’s typical Post-Apocalyptic books. It was similar in my head to 36 Hours where we meet the family and figure out that something is about to hit the fan.

As an Akart reader, I really enjoyed (and chuckled at) the slight references to his others books. There was a reference to the first book of the blackout series: “As it relates to a solar flare, or whatever, I’m told we’d have at least 36 Hours to warn the public…” and then the reference to the Boston Brahmin Series “In every aspect of our lives, we choose freedom!”. I’ll even give him a nod to the 3rd series here: “Okay, a major collapse event—economic collapse, cyber attack, pandemic, EMP.”

This book is definitely in the thriller category and had me on the edge of my seat. I ended up staying up past when I wanted to just so that I could finish the book. I ended up only needing 2 days to read the entire book cover to cover. I couldn’t put it down.

I think there was really something for everyone in this book. Western lovers will enjoy that the one character is a professional bull-rider. Political thriller lovers will enjoy the tensions created in the entire book (spoilers if I explain it more). Regular thriller readers will love some of the scenes in multiple places including a foreign land (more spoilers if I really explain it).

Overall, a really enjoyable setup book that has me chomping at the bit to get into the second book. I can’t wait to see where Akart takes The Lone Star Series but I can tell you this. It’s going to be one hell of a ride.

I was voluntarily provided with a copy of this book and it has not affected my review. If you enjoyed my review please vote for it. Every vote helps!

A Conservative’s wet dream....

Very much written from a specific political ideology complete with some conspiracy theories played out. It actually distracts from a solid plot line and likeable characters. Although, several of the characters are straight out of a book of stereotypes, especially ALL the Texans. Oh yeah, and the Texas power grid does NOT cover El Paso and does cross over to Louisiana....just sayin’

To much preaching too little action

Character development is one thing, but come on... this entire book is just a setup for the next, with very little entertaining meat of its own.

Sean Runnette is excellent. The only reason I kept listening after the introduction, which laid out the most compelling case for real concern.

Here’s the main messages: the Deep State runs things. You’d better inherit a huge ranch where you can prep and plan to be independent. Forget helping others - they are on there own and should have had their own inheritance. We need a wall on both the north and south borders.

There, I just saved you several hours. If you are so inclined, you’ll probably get more entertainment from listening to Alex Jones.

Sure hope Akart isn’t a visionary

I’ve read a bunch of Akart’s work. This one is amazing. While a great author, hopefully he isn’t a visionary because it’s scary how plausible this story is. This one book alone guarantees I’ll be pre-ordering what I hope is going to be a long series like the Boston Brahmin series.

Another great series from Bobby Akart.

Author Bobby Akart the book is awesome. I love the characters. Sean did a great job with the reading. I’ve listened to several of his readings, and it always takes me a minute to adjust to him. He did a nice job with the character voices and made the seem very real. I look forward to the next book in the series. Btw, I’ll leave this review on audible too.
Our volunteers are looking great; I hope we do well in the SEC tournament.

Great book! very realistic EMP scenario.

The writer did a great job in a ton of realistic research into an EMP scenario for modern day. this is not some EMP and then huge die off story in book one at least. Would definitely recommend for anyone into this genre. Can't wait to read book 2.
the narrator also did a great job enjoyed his voice and storytelling.

Take a chance and regretted it.

I bought this book based mainly on the reviews. Generally I avoid much of the post apocalyptic fiction due to the preachy/Christian alt right views most of these stories take. Some stories are subtle enough to allow me to enjoy an interesting enough story. This book however clubs you over the head with it quickly by claiming a lack of religion has lead to ruin of the US, and takes it to another level by disparaging women who decide to have a career. I feel lucky I only wasted a couple hours listening to it while working.

Gripping. A defnite must listen(read).

Brilliantly sets the stage for the rest of the series. Unlike most in the TEOTWAWKI genre, Bobby takes much needed time to set the backdrop for the series. The character development will have you so emotionally invested in the Armstrongs, you will feel like they are family. Last but not least, this is a family friendly book. No foul language or inappropriate sexual situations! Be prepared to be entertained and even educated by this master storyteller.

Tedious And Hard To Finish

I had to listen to it in short sessions, it was boring at times. I hope the next book is more exciting?
