On Christmas Day in 1893, every man, woman, and child in a remote gold-mining town disappeared, belongings forsaken, meals left to freeze in vacant cabins - and not a single bone was ever found.
One hundred sixteen years later, two backcountry guides are hired by a history professor and his journalist daughter to lead them to the abandoned mining town so they can learn what happened. Recently, a similar party had also attempted to explore the town and was never heard from again. Now the area is believed to be haunted. This crew is about to discover, 20 miles from civilization with a blizzard bearing down, that they are not alone, and the past is very much alive.

Good but not what I expected.
I really enjoy Blake Crouch's work and Luke Daniels is without question one of my favorite narrators, so it was a no brainer that I would pick this one up. While this isn't Blake's best work, it's still quite a fun tale. This is the story of the town of Abandon. Today it is a ghost town with a mysterious history. One night all the residents disappeared and no one knows what happened to them. Blake does a good job of weaving an intriguing tale, jumping back and forth between the past and the present, giving us glimpses at the tragic history of the town even as in the present chapters we go along a wild search for the truth and hidden treasure. It might not be Blake's best work, but it's a fun tale and Luke Daniels does his usual outstanding job and bringing the adventure to life.
