Publisher's Summary

Hank Mitchell thought he lived an ordinary, ordered life. Happily expecting their first child, Hank and his wife Sarah were headed for their next modest step up the ladder, comfortably nurturing a nest egg in a suburban community near the tiny Ohio crossroads where Hank and his brother Jacob were raised. But on one chilly afternoon, Hank, his brother, and Jacob's unsavory pal Lou make a discovery that offers a chance for a life filled with riches beyond their wildest dreams. And in a fateful moment, Hank lays a plan to claim that life - and the horrific crumbling of his ordered world begins.

Tightly-wrapped In a Neat Package

This is the story I return to again and again when I get frustrated with other long-winded and meandering audio books. Concise, clever and believable. I wish I could find 20 more like it!

A Gripper

This book got me hooked right away. I've listened to it twice now, several years apart. it loses nothing the second time around. A story of greed and messed up morals. Got me thinking... what would I do in the same situitation..... I found myself believing the reader WAS the main character. Check this one out, you won't be sorry.

Once a murderer, what the heck.

Where does A Simple Plan rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not highest, but I did really enjoy this one. Makes you wonder what people stoop to when presented with the chance of theft by finding £4m.

What other book might you compare A Simple Plan to, and why?

It'd have to be a murder story. Maybe 'Leadbelly' by John Silvester, about the 1970's Australian gangland killings. Pointless because in the end everyone gets hit. Perhaps this is bit of an accidental mini mafia minus 'family loyalty' rules.

What about Griffin Dunne’s performance did you like?

This was fine. Read in the first person.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The escalating compromised morals of all main characters. Eventually no-one can trust anyone. In real life you would expect at least one upstanding person to be reviled enough to blow this 'Simple Plan'.

Any additional comments?

This is not organised crime as such, with willing participants accepting clear rules and loyalties.. Therefore, with so many inadvertent parties in the know, it's a bit implausible how everyone keeps quiet and sticks to the plan. That is. all the time they think it's working in their interest.
