Publisher's summary

After a night out with friends, Matthew Scudder is reminded of an enigmatic case he had while still working as uniformed policeman. The case in question involves the suicide of a devout Catholic man in front of his wife and children... or was it a murder?

Blockhead

This is a mystery that never gets solved. Suggestions are made and you are to figure out what you think. It is well written and Block fans will have fun trying to figure out if this guy was a Blockhead, Hero or Victim.

The reason I gave this three stars is that it is not the kind of story I enjoy. I read a short story by Block in another Genre, liked it and decided to try him on another. Mystery fans should be pleased with this.

Short Story Alert - I don't like 'em.
Might as well tear some pages from a dictionary, squash 'em into a blender and so on. But because I've enjoyed so many mysteries by this author it only took me 2 or 3 weeks to decide to try this little bit of "guess what?" And it is so very good.

Outstabding short story.

Outstanding short story with a kind-of surprise ending. The narrator is just on-point, and the writing is deceptively simple - kind of like real life. Things just kind of sneak up while you are looking at all the other interesting things.
