Publisher's summary

Bobby Charlton is Manchester United through and through. He was a member of the original "Busby Babes" and has devoted his career to the club, playing in 754 games over 17 years. During that period he won everything the game had to offer, played alongside such greats as Best and Law, suffered devastating defeats, and was involved in one of the greatest football tragedies of all time.

Here, for the very first time, he tells the story of those United years. With his beloved Reds, he tasted FA Cup victory in the emotional final of 1963, won three first division championships, and in 1968 reached the pinnacle of club success, winning the European Cup.

Inevitably, such highs are balanced with no less dramatic lows, such as the 1957 European Cup semi-final, the highly charged 1958 FA Cup loss (which followed only weeks after the horrors of the Munich Air disaster), and the 1969 European Cup defeat by Milan. He is one of the true gentlemen of football, and the legacy that Bobby Charlton gives to United is beyond compare.

Too short

Would you try another book from Bobby Charlton and/or Christian Rodska?

It is a quick gloss over a great career. Not many interesting back stories. Not even as good as the Munich movie which did a better job on Charlton's playing time at United. It's a good enough read but falls short at 2 hours. It barely mentions the Alex Ferguson times when Sir Bobby was a director. It would have been nice to see his viewpoints on more of this.

Has My Manchester United Years turned you off from other books in this genre?

No - I love sporting biographies but this was not a very complete one

Would you listen to another book narrated by Christian Rodska?

Yes - did a good job on Sir Bobby's accent

Do you think My Manchester United Years needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I would like to see a proper job done on a fitting tribute to Charlton from his young days to the world cup to the European cup and onwards to management and the boardroom and ambassadorship at United.

Any additional comments?

Worth about $3-$4 based on the short running time

A Fine Reminiscence from an English Football Great

A touching couple of hours of reminiscence from an English football great. It's a bit twee at times, but overall a great piece of history for anybody interested in the history of soccer or Manchester United, the greatest team of them all.

I’ll walk down memory lane with one of the greats

There are a few players more synonymous with Manchester, United, than Sir Bobby Charlton. It was very interesting, listening to him reminisce about Manchester United, the England, national team,, the Munich disaster, and other great players, like Stiles, Law and George best. I like the fact that the narration was done in a more working class accent, instead of a posh, oxford, or Cambridge style accent, which added some authenticity to the narration of this autobiography.
