Publisher's summary

Melody Beattie has been a trusted counselor for millions of people for more than 25 years. Her books are infinitely relatable, flush with candor and insights, and rooted in firsthand experience. Make Miracles in Forty Days is punctuated with Beattie's own stirring stories of overcoming obstacles and dealing with life's tragedies. She walks listeners through a number of different situations, urging them to recognize within themselves the power they have to enact miracles---they have the ability to drastically change their current situations for the better. Beattie provides a six-week action plan, challenging us to practice her Miracle Exercise for 40 days. She instructs listeners to complete a daily gratitude list, which includes what they don't like about their lives, and provides a series of activities that will help them recognize what miracles they want to create. It's crucial, she shows, to be grateful for what we have and what we are, not what we want or wish we were.

"An Amazing Book"

I have listened to this audiobook twice now and I am now completing the exercise. Melody Beattie is so easy to listen to. Her stroires explain how she has trialed the activity of making miracles in 40 days and I found them enthralling. For me this audiobook was the right thing at the right time. Doing the activity or writing about things that totally get to you but still being grateful for them was a new experience. It has also increased my self awareness and identified what drives my behaviour. Funny enough I believe I am starting to see a smal miracle or two. Great book.

Surprised ME!

Where does Make Miracles in Forty Days rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I thought this was a '40Days of Emotional Digging and Struggling and Pain.......to a NEW YOU' . Haha, not at all. It's funny, engagingly read by the author and the exercises are actually a fun thing to do everyday.

Great Plan - With Pros and Cons of Audiobook

Oh thank you Melody Beattie for reminding me the only one I can change is myself. Gratitude for this practice, and for you reading this audiobook in your own voice, a huge plus of this version. I'm starting Melody's easy-to-follow miracle exercise today.

I even had a dream about this book: "Make Miracles in 40 Days" and another, "Change the Brush", were next to each other on my table. I woke up wondering about the other book... and upon contemplation, believe it was my inner compass or higher power telling me that it was time to up my gratitude game, which I've been doing for a few years upon waking. Just as you need to change a paint brush to do the detail work in the corners of a room, or change your toothbrush every often, it's time for me to change the brush in my gratitude practice - and likely other parts of my life too.

The cons if you listen to the audiobook - either take notes as you go along, or search Miracle Exercise (it's sadly not on her website), in order to start the 40 day exercise. I would hope in the future Audible can do attachments with books like this. It's not like I can flip through the audiobook easily to find the specifics of the Miracle Exercise.

What disappointed you about Make Miracles in Forty Days?

I think that Ms. Beattie must have considerable clout otherwise I cannot imagine anyone agreeing to this performance. I have tried to listen to this relatively short book twice now and cannot get through it. I can't find out her secret to miracles because it would take a miracle for me to listen to that much droning! Loved her other books and their narrations were just fine.

Would you ever listen to anything by Melody Beattie again?

NEVER

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Melody Beattie?

Anyone

The next step in Codependent recovery

If you have already been to Coda, therapy, and read codependent no more, this (for me anyway) is the next step. this brings it all together into one journal.
I'm a HUGE fan of this book/process.

Changed my life!!

Amazing author. Inspiring and for a codependent person like me each book I've read by Melodie I learn more and more. Her words and practices in this book are freeing. I'm ever grateful to God for this woman and her gifted way of conveying that we all do the best we can and its ok! Practice makes progress. Thank you Melodie Beattie.

Excellent, heartfelt and filled with possibility

Leave it to Melody Beattie to once again craft words to inspire us to live our best lives and see that miracles are there, possible and within our reach. She is so inspiring. Her ability to show us another perspective and incorporate gratitude into lives pitfalls amazes me.

A pleasant listen to an aunt who has wisdom

No thanks. I think the message was to breathe and let go. Great. I read that in a cheesy price of wall art and it’s true. Breathe and let go.
