Publisher's summary

On a rainy June morning, tens of thousands of people crowd into Duluth for the city's biggest annual event: the Duluth Marathon. Exhausted runners push to reach the finish line and spectators line the streets to cheer them on. Then, in a terrifying echo of the Boston bombing, there is an explosion along the race course, leaving many people dead and injured.

Within minutes, Jonathan Stride, Serena Dial, and Maggie Bei are at work with the FBI to find the terrorists behind the tragedy. As social media feeds a flood of rumors and misinformation, one spectator remembers being jostled by a young man with a backpack not far from the bomb site. He spots a Muslim man in a tourist's photo of the event and is convinced that this was the man who bumped into him in the crowd - but now the man's backpack is missing.

When he tweets the photo to the public, the young man, Khan Rashid, becomes the most wanted man in the city. And the manhunt is on.

But are the answers behind the Duluth bombing more complex than anyone realizes? And can Stride, Serena, and Maggie find the truth before more innocent people are killed?

Loved it

So many twists and turns, so many secret, so many with so much to lose. Come take a wild ride where nothing is as it seems, with sick, bad people who have so much to hid to keep their secrets hidden. So many useless deaths, so much sadness, so much evil, it will break your heart. This was a wild ride that holds your attention, I don't know about you but I didn't get it worked out until the end, when you have all the answers hold on to your seat because the author has one more mind blowing secret to tell you.

The narrator give you true emotions, you have no doubt what the characters are feeling, he really brings the excitement to life. He character voices are close together, you can work out who is talking, I didn't care much for his women voices. There are no volume changes, no repeating of words, no background noise. It really was a good listen.

I loved this so much that I bought the authors other audios. It really blow my mind and was a delightful listen. The author knows how to hold your attention, giving you and audio you can't put down. I listened on my way to work, home, at work and even at home. I really didn't want this story to end. I truly loved the ending, it was so nice to see some good come out of all the bad. A highly entertaining read, I look forward to listening to more of this authors work.

One of the best

Every single book in this series is really good, but this one was one of my favorites. There isn’t a better series out there in my opinion.

Marathon

Brian I just want to say that you brought forth one of the biggest flaws in human nature in your story here. I have to admit that I did have to go back and restart the book thinking I had missed something along the way. Not your usual story line but one that holds a lot of truth not only in today’s world but throughout our history. Racism, bullying or just plain ugliness in words that we can spew into the ears of other people. This was a good example of how words can have a domino effect and ruin so many lives. I could go on and on but the heart of the matter is you nailed it good in this novel and I hope your readers come away with a different perspective when it comes to other people. Not everyone is alike. Be kind in your words and encouraging and see what effect that has on the people around you. It isn’t hard.

Super terrific book!

I really love this book, as with all of Brian Freeman’s books. This series had me hooked from the first paragraph of the first book. I am a big fan.

Narrator

This is a great book and the narration was ok but found the German accent the guy used for the main Mid-Eastern gentleman annoying.

Another Good Listen!

This series has its up and downs, but this book gets a 👍🏿 up from me. As with other books in this series the author always has the reader/listener guessing who the killer is. I enjoy trying to figure it out, and in this book I was definitely surprised 😮. Take a listen, you will like the story and the how the narrator brings each character to life. If you tend to gravitate towards suspense and mystery then this will be a hit!

Story ripped from today’s headlines

I appreciated the complex tale with its social, racial and political implications. The performance was stellar as usual.
