Great book on Brudos!

This one took me by surprise because I thought I read most of Ann Rule's books but this is one of her best and from what I gather one of her earlier books. It is an in depth book on Brudos, his crimes, mentality as well as family life. Interesting all the way through with a great narrator. Definitely worth a credit if you are into True Crime.

Gripping, brilliant, loved it, Bravo!

Stranger Beside Me will always be my favorite AR book that is a given but Lust Killer is a close second and I have read many of the late master’s brilliant texts. Oh how I miss her.

Normally it takes a chapter or two to get me engrossed but WHAM I was invested from the first five minutes. This is, sadly a very gruesome true accounting of evil so be aware. However AR knows how to lay out the facts in palatable form. I was on the edge of my seat at times. Callie Beaulieu gives a brilliant performance thus enhancing and enriching this book.

A true story of a serial killer

Well written and kept my interest, but the narrator drove me crazy. Part of the time it was like she was speaking in 1.25 speed and sounded robotic and a lot of mispronunciation of common words (especially in the last hour of the book) and this totally detracted from the story.

Would be more enjoyable if narrated better

I enjoyed the story itself, however, I was disappointed with the narrating. As someone who lives in Oregon, it was a bit distracting to hear Willamette mispronounced several times. Also, Chapter 24 was filled with several basic words mispronunced over and over.

You cannot go wrong with Ann Rule

Ann Rule has a specific talent for describing the events and attributing factors of some horrific murderers. She does it with class and empathy for the victims and does not glorify the murder, but takes the opportunity to help the reader understand these personalities so we can avoid a similar fate. With Lust Killer, she has accomplished just that. A story about a confused and abused boy that becomes a monster, and his victims - including the family and detectives that were greatly impacted by what they saw and heard.

An Incredible Narrative about Jerry Brudos

If you’re a fan of True Crime, you will enjoy this book.
I had learned of Jerry Brudos through past psychology classes, but I had never learned of the trail that his wife was put through afterwards. Ann Rule hasn’t let me down yet!

The...performance...was...horrible

The performance was horrible. So many times I thought about just shutting it off. She paused between words & it was very annoying. Like a robot. I didn't notice it too much early on, but later in the book she started pronouncing words odd. "Doubt" was pronounced "dough-bit" if it wasn't so annoying it might have been comical.
The story itself was good, well written & it drew me in enough to put up with the horrible performance.

I feel like I'm listening to Siri

Would you try another book from Ann Rule and Andy Stack and/or Callie Beaulieu?

Yes, I love Ann Rule and find her books to be informative but not difficult to read.

Would you be willing to try another one of Callie Beaulieu’s performances?

No. She literally sounds like Siri and sometimes I really think I am listening.... to Siri. I'm not sure if it's the mixture of her voice and also the mixing but sometimes her words sound like the disjointed words of Siri. It's very distracting and terrible. It really detracts from the book.

Interesting but not as good as I-5 Killer

I listened to a sample and hesitated on using a credit on the book but it was actually Better once I got into the story. Not as good as the I-5 Killer but still worth a listen
