Publisher's summary

Getting shot was the last thing Lia Broderick expected to happen when she stopped by the bank on her way to work - that and having the gorgeous woman from the coffee shop down the street be the one to rescue her....

FBI Special Agent Dylan McKenzie is a woman with a mission - locate Steven Horton, the witness who could single-handedly bring down the Giametta Crime Family. With Horton hiding from both the mob and the FBI, Dylan and her team are assigned the task of keeping tabs on Horton's ex-wife after mounting evidence leads them to believe he will run to her. Keeping Lia Broderick under surveillance should have been just another day on the job for Dylan. But, when Lia becomes the victim in a bank robbery gone terribly wrong, Dylan has no choice but to break cover in order to step in and save her.

Despite her best efforts to maintain a professional distance from the attractive accountant, Dylan finds herself being reeled deeper and deeper into Lia's life. As the investigation heats up - both under the covers and out - it becomes clear that Lia is the key to finding the evidence that the mob is willing to kill to get their hands on. When Dylan is betrayed by a rogue agent, she suddenly finds herself on the run with Lia, uncertain who she can trust. And as the mob closes in, Dylan realizes that the greatest risk is the one she's taking with her heart.

Utter Disappointment

The author's previous book Falling Slowly is one of my all-time Audible favorites so when I noticed a new Lila Bruce I was jacked. Now I've just been through 8 hours and 10 minutes that left me with a feeling of deep disappointment. While Falling Slowly was a less than 4 hour novel it of course moved rather quickly; so I wasn't expecting this story to move at the same pace. On the other hand I didn't anticipate the slow, tired, plodding, ponderous, interminable; choose your adjective, pace of this book.
If that had been the only issue I had with this story I might've been able to give it 2 or 3 stars. Unfortunately it paled in comparison with the horrible lack of some factor approaching reality on anything other than either sex and romance; not that those were were anything real special. I won't go into great detail pertaining to all the scenes I found ridiculous or worse but one good example is one of the lead characters is a FBI agent (Dillon) whose job is keeping the other lead character (Lia) under surveillance. An attempted bank robbery brings the two of them together and Dillon soon goes undercover as her friend. Okay, so when anyone goes undercover whichever agency has them there tries to limit any contact between the agency and the undercover operative as much as possible. In her first day as Lia's friend both her supervisor and her partner call her just to bitch her out. I so hope the next book of the author's bears no resemblance to this one. Seriously though, Falling Slowly is one of the best.

Action packed story

A reviewer once said that Lila Bruce has the best opening lines - and it’s impossible to disagree.

I was drawn in from the beginning and never let go.

Narration was good, too.

Started off well...

The beginning of the book is great. Solid writing. Good characters and dialog. After about two hours, the story lapses into a disjointed mess and the characters just get silly. I felt like the author had better in her, but it never came out.

Very good story and great narration

I really enjoyed listening to this book, first of all the narration is very good and the story is exciting and well-done. I especially liked the fact that the FBI agent wasn't the usual superhuman person, but a very real flesh and blood, incesure (but capable) woman. The romance was beleivable and appealing.

What a fun FBI Adventure!

After watching decades worth of cop shows and FBI stories, I finally found one that is talking to me! The main characters are interesting and quirky. There is a lot of action -- shootings and car chases -- unknown villlains and twists and turns. On top of it all, there is romance. Do we care that somewhere along the way it gets a little unbelievable? No! It is just a joyous shoot-em-up romp, tongue firmly in cheek in a few places. What is not to love? I listened to the whole book in a single, sunny day and enjoyed it all.

Who do you trust...

I loved the suspense of Lia and Dylan’s relationship in Little Lies by Lila Bruce. The doubt in whether to trust Lia or use her to complete the FBI task. It was like listening to an episode of a tv crime show with the pleasant touch of romance thrown into it. I hope that there is a series in this story.

Awesome story

I love the stories, where you don't know what happens next. This one had many turns, ups and downs and kept me listening. I loved the voice, and I think Tia is awesome narrator. I think the interactions between characters was perfect, kind of cute and sweet as well.
