Publisher's summary

A lush, tropical island on an icy planet makes no sense.

Then again, not much makes sense anymore after waking up and finding myself not in bed but on a strange world populated by aliens. Since that moment, I've learned that nothing is normal anymore and I've got to roll with the punches. I can handle this, though. I'm strong and capable.

So...washed up on a tropical island? Got it handled.

Separated from the others in my group? Handled.

Stranded alone with a brutal but delicious alien man that can't speak English but has great...ahem...body language? Yup, handled.

Add in the fact that my cootie - a symbiont I need to survive - has chosen my big, hulking alien friend as my fated mate? Let's just say that the situation isn't the only thing that's going to be handled.

But it isn't long before I learn that the tropical island paradise is a death trap and we're all in grave danger, aliens, and humans alike. To survive this, I'll need my tempting guy to give me a hand with the situation...good thing he's got four of them.

Contains mature themes.

Nice Addition to Series

I was tired of the Ice Planet stories because of the monotony. But this has added a nice new element and set of characters that I really like! Ruby revived the series here. I also enjoy that their’s a little less gratuitous love scenes and more focus on a great story!

Enjoyed the story

I really like Ruby Dixon books and this was no different. I read this book more than once and for me, that is telling! I wasn't too happy with the narration of the book. Personally, I think it would have read better with man doing man voice and woman doing woman voice.
I am happy though to have the audio version and would say a big THANK YOU to Ruby for making that happen!

A fun romance.

LAUREN’S BARBARIAN is my first novel by Ruby Dixon and I liked it from the start to end. It’s the first novel in a series so a little time was spent in the beginning setting up the world. It was interesting and funny so I didn’t find it too long.

Both the heroine (and other abductees) and the hero (and his race) are likeable and I enjoyed seeing how their characters developed with the added difficulty of a language barrier. Hearing the wonderful Sean Crisden narrate as the hero who at first completely misinterpreted the heroine’s actions was a total hoot that had me doubled over, laughing. At the same time, the story evolved into one of survival, trust and ultimately, love. I thought it was well done, and look forward to more stories in the series.

It was my first time hearing narrator Felicity Munroe and I appreciated her characterisations. She and Sean Crisden together created a pleasurable listening experience.

Voice Actress isn’t great

I don’t like the way she pronounces the words differently as if she didn’t even read the books at all. She mispronounces words and it’s so annoying. I like the ice planet books and actors better but the story is good so far.

Interested in the new storyline

I’ve already listened to all of the Ice Planet series, and have finally made it to the Ice Home series. I’m enjoying the new characters so far, but the narration was definitely a big change for me, I don’t know if I’ll get used to the new voices or pronunciations anytime soon, but it’s definitely not enough to have me stop listening.

good overall aside from one character

Sweet Christmas, Marisol was *insufferable*! both in the way her character was written and the whiny little voice that the female narrator gave her. I liked the story overall. It was interesting for sure, but Marisol was a thorn in my side. If she were the main character, I couldn't have dealt with it. The romance blossomed quickly, but it made sense. I thought the book had a good balance between the main plot and the romance. I also thought it had a good amount of spicy scenes.
Similarly, I enjoyed the narrators overall aside from that one grating voice. I appreciated the variance that they gave to the voices and found them both pleasant overall.

Hot! Literally!

I loved this story. The characters are interesting and well developed. I was really impressed with Lauren and how she reacted to everything that came up.

Lauren wakes up on an ice planet with big blue aliens and a few others. She decides she will just "handle it". After an accident, Lauren wakes up on a tropical island and wonders if she was kidnapped by aliens again because a tropical island on an ice planet doesn't make sense. When she realizes that she's not alone on the island, but with a stranger that can't speak her language she wonders how this is going to work, But then Lauren realizes that they are resonating (her cootie/symbiont that was needed to survive chooses a mate) which makes everything more complicated. If that's not enough, she then learns that the island paradise isn't really a paradise and they need to leave if they want to survive.

The interactions between Lauren and K'Thar are awesome. The two of them are hilarious, sweet, strong and unconventional. The faith that K'Thar put into Lauren was beautiful. I love their happy ever after. I recommend reading or listening to this book. I've read it through Kindle Unlimited and listened to it through Audible Escape.
