Publisher's summary

Do you know what the hardest thing for a Spanish learner is?

Finding PROPER reading material that they can handle...which is precisely the reason we’ve written this book!

Teachers love giving out tough, expert-level literature to their students, books that present many new problems to the reader and force them to search for words in a dictionary every five minutes - it’s not entertaining, useful, or motivating for the student at all, and many soon give up on learning at all!

In this book we have compiled 20 easy-to-read, compelling, and fun stories that will allow you to expand your vocabulary and give you the tools to improve your grasp of the wonderful Spanish tongue.

How Spanish Short Stories for Beginners works:

  • Each story will involve an important lesson of the tools in the Spanish language (verbs, adjectives, past tense, giving directions, and more), involving an interesting and entertaining story with realistic dialogues and day-to-day situations.
  • The summaries follow: a synopsis in Spanish and in English of what you just read, both to review the lesson and for you to see if you understood what the tale was about.
  • At the end of those summaries, you’ll be provided with a list of the most relevant vocabulary involved in the lesson as well as slang and sayings that you may not have understood at first glance!
  • Finally, you’ll be provided with a set of tricky questions in Spanish, providing you with the chance to prove that you learned something in the story. Don’t worry if you don’t know the answer to any - we will provide them immediately after, but no cheating!

We want you to feel comfortable while learning the tongue; after all, no language should be a barrier for you to travel around the world and expand your social circles!

So look no further! Pick up your copy of Spanish Short Stories for Beginners.

Boring and not for beginners

I speak Spanish fluently and was looking for something for my kids who already have a base of Spanish from having bilingual parents. The narrator's accent is not ideal for learning and the words are not spoken as clearly as you would expect to speak to a language learner or child. There are no sound effects to help the story come alive and the story is boring for any age. Don't waste your money or credit.

Not for Beginners !

Way too hard and overwhelming for me and I’d consider myself an intermediate Spanish learner.

Too hard for a beginner.

I was very hopeful when getting this audible book. Unfortunately it was too hard for beginner. it starts with a long paragraph of stories in Spanish and then gives you keywords, after the fact. I just could not catch on...I’m gonna try a different platform for teaching.

Not even close to beginner level.

For the level of work required the stories should be better. This book was a disappointment.

Returning the book

The first story was charming and the storyteller was amazing! His voice was clear and engaging.
The storyteller and the writing are the only reason I didn't rate this ONE star.

What ruined it for me was the automated voice they use for English. It was horrifically nasal and annoying. Plus, it was substantially louder than the rest of the book, joltingly loud. I listened to the first few vocabulary words and had to turn it off.. It was like a cross between nails-on-the-blackboard and a screaming cat. Seriously, they should have listened to it before publishing.

I'm really disappointed because this would have been just what I needed at my learning stage .

Great value for the money, BUT...

Okay, so Spanish Short Stories for Beginners by Lingo Mastery is quite a value for the Audible credit. I mean, seriously-WOW. Though this says that it's for beginners, I definitely wouldn't say that it's for beginning beginners. This is a fully immersive book. As in it's totally in Spanish except for the vocabulary words at the end of the story, which doesn't translate well to an audiobook if you aren't following along and translating at the same time. Plus, the stories are long. You really need to use the accompanying 208 page PDF in order to have an idea of what the stories are about and follow along. Also, Lingo Mastery offers a free video course to go along with this book. I mean, it's a fabulous deal, but yowza! It's so not for beginners. I personally do better with Rosetta Stone and Pimselur for learning the basics, and then eventually move up to something like this to introduce new words and put everything together to listen to a story. That being said, that's just my particular learning style, so this may be YOUR perfect learning style. It's definitely a book that I will come back to when my Spanish advances a bit more though, as it's really, really well done.

Jesse Fister and Nicolas Villanueva both, in my opinion, did a great job narrating this book. I found both gentlemen to be easy to understand and very efficient at their respective narrations. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Poor download

Could not go further than the intro, even though I purchased the book. Would love to listen to the rest but I could not.

Great book for beginners and int. Spanish speakers

I grew up speaking Spanish with my family and have always been able to carry on conversations without any major problems. Lately, however, speaking fluently, keeping up with my Spanish vocabulary and remembering the proper sentence structure has become more difficult. This audiobook has been helpful for these issues. The first few stories are fairly rudimentary and simple but as the book progresses the stories begin to incorporate new vocabulary and wonderful examples of proper sentence structure. This book is great for new beginners and to those intermediate Spanish speakers that would like to expand their vocabulary to speak professionally and fluently.
