easy to understand translations. useful words and phrases translated clearly with enough time in between to try to guess meaning yourself once you listened to it a few times. good narrators make this audiobook enjoyable to listen to all day. materially really sinks in. highly recommended.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
If you're heading to Germany for a vacation in a few weeks and need to pick up some helpful phrases this book might be for you. But as far as using it as a tool to actually learn the language...well, I'd go with Pimsleur or some other more structured approach.
Would you be willing to try another book from Edward Swick? Why or why not?
No...as this book was billed as an easy tool to assist learing the language I feel my money would be better spent on other books.
What three words best describe the narrator’s performance?
The narration was very nicely done.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from German for Dummies?
I would have restructured the entire approach.

I downloaded this as my free trial book, and I'm really glad I didn't pay for it. Reading reviews on amazon, it appears that the CD version of this title includes a booklet, which presumably includes information on which topics are in each chapter, and other essential information. Unfortunately the download does not have this, and as the chapters are numbered and not named, the only way to find out what is covered in each chapter is to listen to it.
There is a short and pointless introduction, then the actual course content itself starts quite abruptly with a list of pronouns, which are said first in English, then repeated twice in German, before moving on to greetings. I've no idea what happens next, as my head was spinning from trying to remember the difference between 'they: singular, informal' and 'they: singular, formal' without any explanation of what the difference was or when they should be used, so I gave up. As learning goes, the mindless repetition approach may work for some people, but it doesn't for me. A poor attempt from a brand which can usually be relied upon to provide quality basic learning materials.

Could someone please sort out the sample for this product ? There is no way to get a sense of how good this title is by playing the short preview, which is merely an introduction. Maybe a clip from one of the chapters would be more appropriate, so that you could see how fast the lesson proceeds, how complicated the phrases are, etc.
