Real Spanish for Real Spanish Speaking Situations

What did you love best about Conversational Latin American Spanish - 8 One Hour Audio Lessons (English and Spanish Edition)?

Easy to follow along. Not too fast. Not too slow.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Language Gain without Language Pain

Any additional comments?

I recently received this program from audible and have spent about six hours listening to it over the past couple of days. And I DO know why I am giving it 5 stars. I disagree with the reviewer who said that the narrator’s voice was ‘condescending.’ The narrator is not a professional orator or broadcaster. He is a language teacher and I think the narrator’s tone is simply his attempt to just try to be considerate of the learner and to make the program pleasurable to listen to.

This program has great Latin Americans native Spanish speakers, and is easy to understand and repeat after. It’s a very back and forth approach to conversation, back and forth between you and the teachers. No guessing about meanings. You are always reminded of what the Spanish words and phrases mean in English. You can focus on the new Spanish word without distracting yourself trying to remember what the English translation is.

Lots of vocabulary that is good for shopping, eating, and just getting around in a Spanish speaking country. It mixes stuff you already learned with new stuff so that you are reviewing previous things at the same time that you are moving on to something new.

I’m very happy with this audio program and I still have a couple more hours to go.

I'm Learning to Converse with Spanish Speakers

Great native speakers from Mexico and Colombia. Interactive approach to Latin-American conversation.
No guessing. Instant English to Spanish. Great retrieval memory technique which greatly enhances learning retention. Very relevant vocabulary for travel, shopping, restaurants, and general purpose traveling or communicating. It’s called ‘Conversational’ for a reason. If you want a lot of grammatical explanations consult a college textbook. The “Conversational Latin American Spanish” audio program teaches talking, not reading. That’s why it’s an audio program. Nothing can take the place of repetition and challenging you to speak with natives when learning a foreign language. This program does much of the review for you. It drills you on previous material at the same time that it is presenting you with new words and phrases. So older material stays fresh in your mind. That is what causes it all to sink in. The more you listen to these lessons the more conversationally comfortable you will become. You're taught how to have real conversations about real things with real Spanish speakers.

Very helpful for learning to converse with ease

Very helpful to for learning to converse with ease

I bought this audio program called Conversational Latin American Spanish 1. It is much better than a cd program I bought from another company years ago. It is not dry and boring like the first one tended to be. The speakers used on the program are easy to understand and copy when you are repeating what they are saying. That is the greatest thing about it for me. I appreciate the consideration that the developer of this program gives to the learner in explaining the details of Spanish and having the native Spanish speakers repeat at different speeds. The native Spanish speakers say things slowly and then at normal speed. That is such a great help in learning to speak correctly. You can’t learn to say things right if you can’t understand what is being said. You CAN understand with these speakers on this program. They teach a lot of words and phrases about a lot of different topics. The direct conversation practice really helps in learning to speak comfortably. It is all very useful if you go to any country where Spanish is spoken. As you learn the material you are also learning how to use it. That makes it fun to learn and makes you want to keep learning more.

Really Got Me Conversing in Spanish Fast

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to learn to speak real conversational Spanish. What I mean by "real" is the way Spanish speaking Latin Americans really talk.
So many programs I have tried just don't give you this kind of true life practice. With Conversational Latin American Spanish, they have several native speakers, all with different accents, and they let you join in with them, repeat, practice. review ..... I really learned fast from this approach and never got bored once.

What did you like best about this story?

What I like best is the way the program starts out slow, lets you listen to the Spanish, gives you the meanings in English, lets you listen and repeat slowly in Spanish, and then hits you with it faster and faster until you're at native speed.
Then they are kind enough to ask "Did you get that?". Most of the time I did not get it.
Then they give it to you slowly one more time. Then fast again.
This is a great way to learn to speak any language.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene is where I learn to say "I am from the United States" and then I learn to tell people I am American. I am from the United States, and then I learn to add to all of it to sound natural and really communicate in Spanish.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Understand conversational Spanish for the first time in your life, and then actually learn to speak it too. First slowly, then medium, then at native speed. And remember it too.

Any additional comments?

You get lots of chances to make mistakes and get it right. You practice over and over, but it never gets boring.
Compare this method, which allows you to repeat at different speeds, with a memory technique that lets you bring it all back from memory.

LOVE IT TO FLUENCY

Any additional comments?

I finally just put away all of my Paul Noble programs and am just using Mark Frobose’s Conversational Spanish 1 and 2.
I don’t have time to explain what is happening to my fluency in detail. All I can say is that Frobose really has his …… together when it comes to teaching Spanish. I’m so far ahead from where I was when I started this program that it makes my head spin.
My advice is “buy it now” along with whatever else this guy makes. It’s the best.

Great Program - Bridges Slow to Fast Conversation

Any additional comments?

No hassle or guessing, friendly narration tone. Instant translation from English to Spanish. This program really bridged that nasty gap between slow Spanish as you learn it on audio and real Spanish spoken at native speed. I also picked up a lot of conversation-based vocabulary in context for all situations, including but not limited to shopping, eating or traveling around in a Spanish-speaking country. The awesome native speakers really helped me to speak and understand Spanish spoken at native speed. All Latin American Spanish speakers. First slow, then medium speed, then blazing fast, just like in real Spanish conversation. Great way to learn Spanish within a reasonable period of time. Really enjoyable too. For me, a bargain for my time and money.

Challenging and Spontaneous Spanish Speaking Becom

Where does Conversational Latin American Spanish - 8 One Hour Audio Lessons (English and Spanish Edition) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

10 out of 10 for me. Easy to learn and get along with the Latin American speakers and the narrator, who does not go too fast, not too slow. You can easily converse with them in Spanish. Listen, learn, repeat, and review all in one. It’s just like you are directly conversing with the speakers sitting in front of you. It is a great program, the best I have ever used. The narration in this program is excellent!

Any additional comments?

I will recommend this conversational Latin American Spanish program to everyone who wants to converse in Spanish, may be for a trip to a Spanish city or for shopping, restaurant, etc. It is the best program I have ever tried as you get to learn the real Spanish. The speakers also explain the meaning of it in English, which is very good. No guess work required and you learn with such an ease. Highly recommended!

Before trying this awesome program, I tried various course books and audio programs but none was of any help to me. Then I tried this conversation Latin American Spanish audio book by Mark Frobose. I am compelled to say that it’s a great program, worth your money. It’s just like a live session with the Latin American Spanish speakers, with whom you conserve. They speak so slowly, again and again repeat it, and then little fast, ask did you get it, and then repeats it slow and fast. Mind retention power is used as the words are repeated again and again, thereby making your learning Spanish process so easy and spontaneous. I learned to speak a lot of vocabulary words related to shopping, restaurant, conversing with a Spanish person and when one travels to a Spanish city from this program. Real Spanish can be learned within few hours and one doesn’t even get bored of it, even by listening it again and again. Spanish learning gets so enjoyable with this program. Try it. I'm sure it will work for you like it did for me.

Extremely Annoying!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I don't usually write reviews, but this book compelled me to. If you like learning by rote and memorizing hundreds of words and phrases without figuring out the why and how, then this may work for you. However, the speech is synthesized and repetitious to the point of becoming painful. Within the first fifteen minutes 'Please listen', 'Please repeat', 'Retrieve from memory', 'You should have responded' and 'You should have said' drove me crazy. There is no explanation of why a sentence in Spanish is constructed the way it is, how plurals are formed, or how you could expand your vocabulary tremendously by learning a few simple principles.

The voices are synthetic (I suspect they are output from a text-to-speech synthesizer) and very cold, artificial. The same phrases are repeated ad-nauseam, there is no warmth and no sense of a dialog between you and the teacher. A far better approach is that of Paul Noble in his series. I thoroughly enjoyed that and looked forward to listening to his lessons in my car. Here, it is a chore and I gave up after two hours, could not stand it any more. Perhaps others will have more patience. I can already speak four languages and therefore picking up or learning another language is not new to me, but this was boring, and difficult to keep up with.

What could Mark Frobose have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Try speaking normally and not use canned phrases that are clearly pre-recorded repeatedly.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mark Frobose?

Paul Noble

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Conversational Latin American Spanish - 8 One Hour Audio Lessons (English and Spanish Edition)?

I would revise the entire course and construct it differently.

An easier way of learning vocabulary

Overall I like this audio method of learning and reviewing Spanish. It gives me a more better edge of utilizing the Spanish I've learned throughout my time in college and high school while effortlessly picking up much more vocabulary in a much quicker pace. In college I've completed two levels of intermediate Spnanish and even took Spanish composition, but I had trouble with applying my learned boring grammer skills in a spontaneous conversational fashion. This conversational Spanish audio book enables myself to learn with less effort and boredom practical conversational skills. However a visual video with this audio method would add more as well as more chapters that are jiust as practical as the current chapters to help increase and advance basic and intermediate skills.
