What did you love best about Learn German With Stories: Café in Berlin ? 10 Short Stories for Beginners?

The narration matches the text in the ebook (also available in paperback). Each chapter is short, entertaining, and easy for a beginner. Mr. Klein is listed as the narrator, so you're hearing a native speaker read German. There are helpful (and non-instrusive) sound effects to accompany parts of the text. For instance, you might hear a crowd cheering when the text is about soccer. It never drowns out the narration. The narration is read very slowly, not at normal speed. This is helpful, but it would be even more helpful if the Audible book contained two parts, with the second part containing the narration read at normal speed.

What other book might you compare Learn German With Stories: Café in Berlin ? 10 Short Stories for Beginners to and why?

I don't think there is anything quite like this book or this series. They are very professionally done and the prices are extremely reasonable. You can listen while you're reading, or you can listen without the printed text, to test your listening comprehension.

Which character – as performed by André Klein – was your favorite?

He reads with enough expression to make it interesting, but not over-the-top, which would interfere with the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, it's not intended for that.

Any additional comments?

I've read and re-read the ebook versions of Mr. Klein's books, and the Audible version is a worthwhile addition. I would like it if the narration were read a second time at a much faster speed. This would only add about 20-30 minutes to the audiobook and it would not be necessary to include the sound effects, so it shouldn't be hard to do. I am looking forward to Audible versions of Mr. Klein's other books.

Great way to learn

Find the book online so you can follow along. The vocabulary words are bolded in the dialogue. Their definitions are included at the end of each chapter. I recommend adding them to a vocabulary list like the one found in dict.cc to quiz you. Viel Glück!

R-e-a-l-l-y Slow Audio

Playing this audiobook at regular speed keeps it very slow and therefore helps learners recognize and absorb each word which is helpful for beginners. On my next re-listen I’ll increase the speed to get a more naturally flowing cadence. I enjoyed these ten stories and was able to grasp a lot more than I expected! I only gave it 4 (instead of 5) stars overall as I would have loved a PDF transcript to accompany this book. But it’s well worth it, and I recommend it!

Great for Beginners!

This is the first book in German I decided to read and I got to say it is overall great for a A1/A2 level. I’m at an A2 level right now and this first book has been helping me improve my pronunciation little by little; as well as; increase my vocabulary. The storyline and Dino, the main character is fun. I’m planning on getting my hands on the sequel (:

I recommend this book to anyone wanting to start reading as a bundle the kindle version and the Audiobook. It helps a lot. However, I have to say, that if you’re rather used to listening people speak German the Audio might seem slow- paced at time. But bare with it because it’s to help with proper pronunciation.(you can change the speed in settings.)

Keeps you focused and interested

André Klein speaks in a soft and clear voice, which allows one to fully understand and comprehend each story. The pace of the audiobook allows you to press stop and practice a word or phrase while Klein is speaking. The stories and background sounds keeps you focused and interested.

Amazing Way to start learning German

I am kind of a person who prefers the natural way of learning the language which should start always by listening. This book hss been done for such a way. The way I am using the material is as follow:
I read the chapter silently , then I listen to the audio 2-3 time, then I translate the text (there is translated keywords at the end of each chapter). after then I spend 1 week just listening to the material with at least 5 times a day.
I am still learning and working on the material in such a way but what motivated me that after 3 weeks I was able to phrase basic statements in the German language and suddenly a week later I had a basic conversation with a taxi driver and a receptionist at the doctor clinic. thanks to the author.

Good stories. Stilted narration.

The story is amusing and the narrator does a good job of reading with expression. I understand reading slowly for the level but er sagt. Nur zwei. Oder drei Wörter. Und dann. Macht er. Eine Pause. It's so stilted and hard to listen to that I couldn't finish.

Great material for beginners and refreshers

I've been refreshing my rusty German hearing understanding and found this to be of great help. I would recommend it to advanced beginners who have a grasp of basic vocab already.
